Chapter 4

I slept a long time, bending so much in one day wore me out. I was the last one to wake, and the way I woke up was horrible. They soaked me in water.

"You will pay." I declared with a murderous look. My long hair was soaked, and it take forever to dry properly. Lucky for me that Gran Gran isn't around, brcause I can now wear my lovely hair down therefore I don't have to deal with it so much. Since I was already soaked I decided to go in the lake for a proper wash. As I was getting out of the water Aang asked, "What's that on your belly?" He pointed to my birthmark.

"Oh, it's a birthmark." I replied. I looked down at it. It is strange, the birthmark creates a ying and yang symbol. "Cool isn't it."

Aang nodded, then continued packing the camp up. I got dressed and we continued to the Southern Air Temple. It worried me as to what we would find there, since we believed the airbenders extinct. Katara seemed to share my worry, so she tried talking to Aang. It didn't work well.

We flew up high and there in front of us stood a beautiful temple, it seemed to have a few cracks but it was beautiful nonetheless.

We climbed up a ramp that seemed to go on forever.

"So that's where my friends and I would play airball!" Aang told us. He pointed toward some logs standing up. Then he pointed to a clearing. "And... over there would be where the bison would sleep... and... "

"What's wrong?" K asked.

"This place used to be full of monks and lemurs and bison. Now there's just a bunch of weeds. " Aang sighed. He looked so sad and alone. "I can't believe how much things have changed. "

I elbowed Sokka to do something and he did, he volunteered to play airball.

"Where's a painter when you need one." I moaned. I want to save the image of Sokka failing at airball forever. "Quick, Katara give me something to draw on."

Katara looked around and shrugged. Nothing to draw on, oh well. Sokka was whipped by Aang, 7-0, I was rolling on the ground laughing at his pain and failure. Sokka got thrown off of the post onto the ground, and was laying on it as well. Sokka got up and called Katara and myself over.

I got off the ground, still chuckling, and went over to where Sokka stood. There in the snow sat an old Fire Nation helmet.

"We should tell him." Sokka whispered. We don't want Aang knowing to soon.

"Aang, there's something you need to see." Katara shouted. She seemed a bit hesitant on her decision, and last second she waterbended snow onto Sokka and the helmet.

"What is it?" Aang eagerly asked.

Katara, not being a good liar, said, "Uh... just a new waterbending move I learned."

"Nice one." He complimented, not noticing Katara's hesitance. "But enough practicing. We have a whole temple to see!"

Aang ran off and Sokka got up, brushing the snow off.

"You know, you can't protect him forever."

I nodded in agreement, but Katara didn't respond. We continued exploring the temple with Aang.

I didn't want to be part of the whole 'keep the fact that the Fire Nation was here' secret from Aang, so I left Katara and Sokka to talk it over.

Aang showed a statue of his mentor to my siblings while I examined the building. There are no scorch marks on it, old age is the only sign of damage I can see. Even the wooden statue isn't harmed. Perhaps the battle took place in another location of the temple.
