Chapter 8

What the hell?! What the hell?! What the hell?!

I stumbled backwards as the realisation came to me that I was a white wolf. I turned into a flipping wolf. Was this normal? Was there something wrong with me? Did my mum know? There were so many questions flooding through my mind right now as I tried to gain a sense of what was going on.

This has to be a dream. Something like this doesn’t happen. This is impossible. Werewolves and all of that are just legends, myths not a reality. This is not real. Surely, this can’t be real. I can’t even comprehend all of this. I decided to focus on what was happening right now and how I felt. This was the only way I could keep my sanity. Although, I felt like I was already insane.

I looked back down at my paws and the feeling of having four feet on the ground. They were pure white and looked incredibly soft. It was quite beautiful even if it was weird at the same time. The feeling of being like this felt so weird but also so natural as well which only went to confuse my feelings even more than they already were. I felt like I already knew how to run to the best of my ability even though I had never been in this form before. I looked up to my mum who looked at me proudly as she took in my wolf form.

“Anna. I know this is scary and weird but this is totally normal. I am just like you and there are many people like you so this is normal. You are not a freak. I will explain everything about this life once we have gone for a run so you can ease your wolf. Ok?” My mum spoke, clearly and confidently.

I nodded my head in response and my mum smiled happily at me.

“I am going to shift too and we will go,” My mum explained.

I watched intently as my mum’s body began to shake. I watched as her clothes tore as she began to shift. It was fascinating and scary to watch because all that flickered through my mind was that this happened to me but at a slower and more painful rate. However, none of that was what actually surprised me the most. My mum was a gorgeous brown wolf.

It was the wolf I saw.

My mum was the wolf I ran away from when I tripped and injured myself. Oh. It makes so much sense now. No wonder the wolf never attacked me. She was herding me back towards the house so she knew I was safe and at home. How different you see things when you know the truth. My mum looked at me as if to know if I was ready to run with her or not.

I nodded my head in response, feeling slightly nervous because this was totally new and unexpected to me. In that moment I finally realised something else. I was much bigger in my wolf form in comparison to my mother. My overall presence just seemed that much greater and I could feel emotions swirl through me with greater intensity than they ever had before. I felt stronger and physically more capable compared to earlier this morning. It seemed like with me shifting for the first time, I was beginning to achieve my true capabilities.

My mum took off quickly into the forest. I watched her dodge back and forth effortlessly through the trees. I followed her then, my paws pushing against the forest floor. I had never felt so alive and so vitalised. I pushed harder and faster as I felt myself being able to push myself to further and further limits. This was so easy and so natural as I weaved through the trees following my mum just off into the distance.
