LAUREN'S P.O.V.
I sat outside the high school as I waited for responses on Facebook. I had posted asking if anyone would be able to let me stay for a few days. Sure enough, I quickly got a response. Brenton's mom, Shari, said it would be fine if I stayed at their house for a few days. I told her that I was at the high school and she was there picking me up shortly thereafter. She smiled as I got in the car.
"Brenton told me that you were pregnant, and that your parents didn't know. He figured they would find out soon enough, so he told me to keep an eye out on Facebook. Sure enough, there you were asking for a place to stay. Do you want to tell me what happened?"
"I told my parents that I was pregnant and my dad kicked me out. My mom didn't even try to stop him. Then he tried to blame me for Benji's death."
Shari placed a hand on my shoulder. "I'm sorry, honey. Benji was a good kid. He just didn't look both ways. That's no one's fault but the driver's. If they hadn't been so busy talking on one of those damn cellphones, maybe he would have seen Benji and slowed down. No one can be blamed for that except the driver."
By then we had arrived at their house. I walked into the house beind Shari, were Brenton quickly hugged me. "I'm so sorry this is happening to you," he whispered in my ear. I smiled.
"Ok," Mike, Brenton's dad, began. "Brenton, you don't mind taking the couch, do you? And Lauren, you can take Brenton's room."
Brenton nodded. "Here you go. You know where the bathroom is and all that jazz, so I'll just leave you to your beauty sleep," he began to walk out of the room.
"Ok, Brenton?" I asked.
"Yes?" he replied.
"Thank you so much. I appreciate it. Really. You have no idea how much it means to me that you are letting me stay."
Brenton smiled. "Anything for my bus buddy. You know I'd do just about anything for you right?"
"Yeah. Thanks. And I didn't see Justin. Can you let him know that I'm here?"
Brenton nodded and turned off the light.
