I listened to Elvis when others were into the new stuff
They didn’t seem to understand me, maybe thought I wasn’t cool enough
I listened to George Jones, Johnny Cash and Merle
I guess it seemed a little strange for a young city girl
I loved the oldies that came out way before my time
I thought Jerry Lee, Little Richard and Motown were sublime
I knew that no matter what happened or whatever came
It would always seem better with a little Etta James
I never settled for just one sound, I had to listen to it all
Many kinds of music, didn’t matter what it was called
Old Rock, Soft Rock, Hard Rock, and more
Didn’t matter if it was soft and sweet or simply hard core
Journey, Rush, Zeppelin, Styx and REO
I just loved all music and not ashamed to let it show
Sometimes I would feel like listening to Frank or Dean
Just made me feel better, ya know what I mean
I loved anything that made me want to dance
I loved anything that spoke of true romance
If a song had lyrics that touched my heart
I’d love it forever right from the start
You might think that my taste in music is a little bit strange
But I’m proud to say, it aint never gonna change!
You might be thinking “what a crazy thing to write about”
But I love my music without a doubt
Music can say what your heart is feeling
And it can clear your mind when it seems to be reeling
Just thought I would share these thoughts with you
Now you can continue doing what you do :)
