Carru

I can't believe the summer is over already. Now I gotta get back into studying and shit because it's senior year and CXC examinations are coming up next year.

I finished getting dressed then head downstairs to get breakfast 'cauz man I'm hungry. When I got to the dining room my aunt and cousins were already there eating.

"Morning", I said sitting down beside my cousin/best friend Andre. We're the same age, going to the same school, on the football team and in almost all the same classes. Sometimes people think we're twins.

"Morning bro gawd", Andre said with his mouth full of food.

"Stop talking with your mouth full Andre", My little cousin and Andre's little sister Amelia said shaking her head at her bro.

"Shut up Mel", Dre hissed.

"Shut can't go up, taxes do, so take my advice and shut up too", Amelia said to Dre and I laughed.

"Stop it you too. Ready for senior year Carru?" Aunt Donna asked me.

"Yea I guess. Definitely ready for schoolboy football season though", I said.

"Yeah bredda!" Dre said and we knock fists.

"Boys", Amelia said rolling her eyes.

"Okay. Now hurry up, y'all don't wanna be late on your first day", Aunt said.

Fifteen minutes later Andre and I left for school. You must be wondering why I live with my aunt and cousins and not my parents. Well that's because my parents died when I was 10 years old. So my aunt and cousins move in with me because they're the only family I have left.

My Dad was a Businessman and my Mom was a Doctor. My parents were rich and they left everything they had to me, but I can't access it until I'm 18. Ever since their death something changed in me I just became dark and bitter. I hated everyone for a while until my aunt, cousins and counsellors help me to deal with their death.

The bitterness is still there because I'm known for my bad boy reputation at school. Bad boy, gangster, troublemaker, heartbreaker, player are some of the names everyone calls my crew and I at school.

We reached school just as the bell rang signaling time for general devotion. Normally the boys and I wouldn't go to devotion but because it's the first day of senior year we went to assembly.

"Carru! Andre!", we stopped when we heard coach calling our name.

"Yea coach", Dre said when we saw him.

"Stay at the undercroft with the rest of the team. They're going to want you to introduce yourselves and the positions you play to the whole school. Okay?" Coach said.

"Ight coach", we said in unison.

"Let's go", I said to Dre and we went to meet the rest of the team.

"Bout time unuh reach. Wah gwaan bredda", Marc said and we knock fists.

"Man me cya wait fe we first game! It a guh murda them! Wi team's 100% ready", Jake said.

"Yzt an wi a guh fe the cup title", Dre said.

"And we a guh get it", I said.

"Cauz teamwork a everything. And we got that", Daniel said. He's one of the defender on our team.

"Exactly", Marc said.

General devotion was long and boring as usual. I got respect for God, but he ain't gon' be mad if y'all cut the prayer session short. The best part of devotion is when they start talking about the schoolboy football season. Our first game is on Friday. We'll be playing Lacovia high school.

"I want to invite our DaCosta Cup football team and coaches on stage please. Boys please introduce yourselves and the position that you play", Principal Graham said.

One by one the guys took their turn in introducing themselves to everyone.

"Good morning. My name is Andre Simpson. I play centre forward and I'm co-captain of our team.", Andre said.

"Good Morning. My name is Jake Barnes and I play attacking midfield", Jake said.

"Good morning. My name is Marc Collins. I play Defensive Midfield", Marc said.

"Good morning. My name is Carru Mitchell. I play forward and I'm the captain of our team", I said ending the introductions.

I heard a few girls screaming out my name after my introduction. What can I say, I'm popular with the ladies.
