Ch. 17 - We Make A Great Team

The weekend has ended and I'm finally back at school. I hope I didn't miss out a lot for Thursday and Friday.

"Shena I'm so glad you're back! Girl you don't know how worried I was! You scared me half to death when you fainted", San said smiling.

"She's right girl. San literally cried at school on Thursday. But I knew you'd be okay", Zo said.

"I just missed ya crazy ass. So glad you're back. And no more junk food for you", Cam said demanding.

"Trust me, I've learnt my lesson", I said and they smiled.

"Carru was worried about you. How awesome is it that he cares about you?" San said giggling.

"Oh please San. He's only nice to Shena so that he can easily play her. Ain't nun more than that", Zo said harshly.

"I don't care coz I'm not gonna let him play me anyway", I said pointedly.

"But what if he's not playing you? I really don't think he is. People change you know", San said.

"Carru hasn't. So stop siding with him", Zoya said.

"I'm not siding with him. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. Something you forget to do", San said.

"Let's not fight over this. Plus I heard that Carru and his crew are getting soft", Cam said and we all stared at her.

"What do you mean?" I asked curiously.

"Well this morning before general devotion started, Judy told me that she saw them apologizing to this boy who Carru must've accidentally spilled juice on", Cam said calmly.

"I'm sure Judy is lying", Zoya said.

"Nope. I asked the boy about it myself and he said that he was shocked because Carru gave him his handkerchief to dry his clothes with and he showed me the handkerchief", Cam said matter of factly.

"Like seriously?" I asked bewildered.

"That's impossible! Carru can't change! He's a big bully! I'm telling ya Shena he ain't no good", Zoya remarked.

"Oh c'mon Zo. It's not impossible! Are you saying that Cam's a lier?" San asked harshly.

"That's not what I'm saying.."

"Then what are you saying? Look I know that Carru and his friends did a lot of bad things in the past but people change. And you can't deny that ever since he apologized to Shena he's been nothing but nice to us", San said.

"I don't care what you say San because I know that Carru is awful and I'm not going to just sit back and let him play my best friend. It won't happen", Zo said.

"Can't you just give the guy a mofo chance?!" San asked angrily.

"Whoa! Girls calm down! Please stop this nonsense! Enough now about Carru! I don't wanna hear anymore. Carru is nothing to me so please just stop", I said harshly.

Just then the bell rang so San and I went to maths class. We got there and took our seats then Carru and Andre came and sit right behind San and I.

"Hey Shena. How are you now?" Carru asked.

"I'm 100% better now", I said and he smiled.

"That's good to know", Andre said and I nod at him.

Just then Sir walked in and I turn my attention to him. Later in class Carru passed a note to me so I opened it and it read 'Can I borrow a pencil mines broken'. So I took a pencil out my pencil case and gave it to him. When I looked on his desk there was a pencil on it broken in half.

"Broken huh?" I said and he smiled.

"Thanks", he said gesturing to the pencil I gave him.

I turn my attention back to my work then I heard San laughing lightly so I looked at her and smiled.

"Okay students. I've marked your worksheets over the weekend  and I'm proud to say that you guys did really well especially the team with the highest marks. I'm impressed. Good job people", Sir said and we all cheered.

"The paper was marked out of 50. When I call your group, one person from the group please come and collect your paper. The team with the highest marks scored 45 out of 50. And that team is group 5. Good work guys", Sir said smiling.

"Wait, that's our group", San said smiling then she got up and took the paper from Sir.

When she got back I took the paper from her and looked at it. Oh my God! Highest score! That's amazing! I gave Carru the paper and he looked at it.

"Oh my God! We're awesome!" San squealed.

"I can't believe we got highest marks. That's amazing", I said smiling.

"Ya. Congrats y'all. We did good", Andre said smiling.

"We make a great team", Carru said smiling at me.

"Right on bro", Andre said then they fist bump.

The bell rang signaling end of class.

"You may go", Sir said.

"Here", Carru said handing the paper to me. "You can keep it".

"Okay", I said taking the paper from him. Then San and I left class.

The week flew by quickly. Carru and his friends have been nice to my friends and I ever since I recovered and got back to school. He's always asking me if I'm okay. Always checking up on me. Sometimes I see him smiling at me for no reason. I thought that was really creepy at first but now that he's always checking up on me, I smile back sometimes.

I heard students talking about how nice they have become. In some instances, I heard students talking about how they're apologising to them for what they did. I even heard some girls complaining about how the boys aren't interested in them anymore and I'm like, what the hell is wrong with these idiots.

Zoya and Saneke are still arguing about them but I couldn't care less. If they're really changing then that's good. I don't know why those two are making it their problem.
