Even though Dad and Cadenza were extremely worried about me and wanted to take me to the hospital right away to see what was wrong with my legs, I said that I wanted to wait until morning to get checked out. They were hesitant at first but eventually agreed. It was late at night and I really just wanted to go to sleep.
The next morning, we got ready to go to the hospital. Dad had made an appointment the night before. I struggled to get my clothes on, but eventually, I finished and Cadenza helped me downstairs to breakfast.
After Cadenza and Dad helped me into the car. They both got in the car and they both looked equally winded for some reason.
“Laurance, you should think about losing some weight! Whew!”; Cadenza said out of breath as she put on her seatbelt.
“Excuse me! I’ll have you know that I am the captain of the soccer team!”
“Being captain of the soccer team doesn’t prove your point of how you need to go to the gym.”
“If anything, the only person who needs to gym is Dad.”
“Is that what you think of me? You think I’m fat?” Dad said to us with puppy-dog eyes through his rearview mirror.
“Dad,” I started to say. “I haven’t seen you ride a bike or do any form of exercise since the week after you and mom adopted me. You haven’t even gone to the gym since before Cadenza was born, from what mom told me. Even your stomach is- MPFH!” Cadenza put her hand over my mouth to cut me off. She leaned over and angrily whispered into my ear.
“Laurance, shut up now or your legs won’t be the only things that you won’t be able to move, got it?”
“Yes, mam!” I gulped. Cadenza is pretty damn terrifying when she wants to be.
“We’re here!” Dad announced. “Cadenza, can you go inside and get a wheelchair for your brother?”
“Yep!” She got out of the car and slammed the door behind her. She ran into the building and walking out, rolling over the wheelchair and parking it in front of the car door. I opened the door and she lifted me out of the car and into the wheelchair.
~Time Skip To Da YEE Olde Doctor’s Office~
The doctor did a few tests and took an X-Ray of my legs, then left the room. Ten minutes later, he came back in holding a clipboard with some papers in his hand. His face was a combination of sympathy and hope. It made me confused and somewhat scared.
“So Laurance, from the looks of these X-Rays, both of your legs are paralyzed-”
“WHAT?! You can’t be serious!” I yelled. This couldn’t be happening right now.“ Paralyzed? I wouldn’t be able to walk, run, jump or… play soccer. I love soccer and I’d never want to give it up. I can’t live without soccer!-”
“You didn’t let me finish.”
“Sorry.”
“So like I was saying, both of your legs are paralyzed temporarily. But with some physical therapy, daily leg-strengthening exercise at home and healthy eating habits; you’ll fully be up on your feet and be walking again! It’ll be like this never even happened!”
“Thank Irene! I thought I’d never be able to do anything on my own ever again!”
“Actually, many people who are paralyzed can do most of their daily routine on their own. They just need some help with it. Now on to how this happened.”
Wait! Does he somehow know what happened last night? Did Cadenza tell him? No, she wouldn’t, Cadenza isn’t like that.
“It looks like the temporary paralyzation in your legs was caused by lack of oxygen in your airways. The nerve receptors seemed to spaz out and shut down. Cases like yours are usually caused forcibly. I don’t what you did, but it must’ve been pretty stupid to get yourself into this mess. I’d suggest we start the physical therapy as soon as possible. Is next week good?”
