Chapter thirty three

The movies finally over. The moms are sobbing, I'm sobbing, even Hayes is sobbing. It was THAT sad.

We all calm down the go out to get food.

"Panera?" I suggest.

"Where else would we go?" Hayes asks sarcastically.

"Shut up! You know it's my favorite." I say and he laughs.

We get to Panera and Hayes runs in and order the food for us.

He finally comes out with the food and gets in the car.

"Damn I don't know what's more beautiful. Hayes, or this Panera." I say and they all laugh.

We get home we eat and just chill for a little bit.

After a while, Elizabeth goes home. Hayes stayed, obviously.

"So, Dakota," my mom starts, "how would you feel if I told you....I have a date?"

"WHAT?!", I scream, "THATS AMAZING!"

"Wait so you're okay with it?" She asks.

"Yeah..why wouldn't I be?" I'm confused.

"Because, usually, when a kids parent passes away and their parents start dating, it makes them sad. I don't want to make you sad Dakota." My mom says, but I'm fine.

"Mom, look, obviously I want dad here. We all do but that doesn't mean you have to stop living your life. Go on this date! It'll be amazing for you!" I say and she smiled so big.

"I love you Dakota." She says.

"I love you more mom NOW TELL ME ABOUT THIS GUY!!" I yell.

"Okay his name is Adam. He's this guy from me and Elizabeth's work. SUPER cool like he's so down to earth and cool and awesome. You're going to LOVE him!" She says real excited. I'm so happy for her!

"I can't wait to meet him!" I say.

"Well can you wait for about an hour more? Because he's coming over!" She says and I gasp.

"YES! I can't wait!" I say.

"Okay you guys go ahead upstairs I'm gonna start cooking. I'll save you guys a plate, and I'll call you down to meet him." She says and we go ahead.

Hayes helps me upstairs because, well, I'm still in these dumb casts from the truck.

We go upstairs and he helps me onto my bed. I kind of just zone out for a while. What if the cancer is there? What if they can't remove it? I'm terrified.

"You alright?" He asks.

"Yeah. Just thinking about, you know the,"

"Yeah. I know. Don't really wanna talk about it." He interrupts.

"Sorry." I say and he kind of just looks out the window and doesn't say anything. It was quiet for about 5 minutes.

"You know I'll be right back." He says and leaves the house. What?

I text him and he just doesn't respond. Is he actually mad at me? Like, Sorry I'm scared but it's my body so he's being a little ignorant and selfish. Whatever.

About 30-45 minutes go by  and by now I'm really worried about him. As I go to call him, he declines my call right away. 10 more minutes go by until someone comes in the door. I hear someone run upstairs and

It's Hayes. With a bag FULL of stuff.

"I got you a little something." He smiles.

There was so much stuff in a bag from target. Face masks, lip glosses, cute little scrunchies, cute little comfy shorts, socks, snacks, candy, juice, so much stuff!

"Benjamin Hayes Grier what is this?" I ask.

"For my girl. You deserve it." He says and I motion for him to come over to me and kiss me.

We kiss for a little and then I hear my mom call up

"DAKOTA!" She yells.

"WHAT?!" I yell back.

"HURRY AND COME DOWN! ADAM  IS ABOUT TO BE HERE!" She yells. Yay!!

Me and Hayes look at each other and smile. We're so excited to meet this guy.

He helps me downstairs and we see my mom all nervous. She looks beyond beautiful.

"Mom oh my God you look amazing!" I say and Hayes agrees.

"Are you sure? I'm so nervous. I feel like a teenager!" She says.

"Trust me, you're going to be fine." I say and she gives me a smile.

I then go sit at the table with Hayes casually. And by casually I mean in a wheelchair cause I can't friggen walk but we'll get passed that.

As a couple minutes pass, there's a knock on the door.

My mom answers the door and in comes this extremely attractive, tall man walk in. He has the cutest smile and personality!

"Hi Caitlin!" He smiles and she says hi all cute and nervous like.

"Adam this is my daughter Dakota. Dakota, this is adam." She says as he comes up to shake my hand.

"How ya doin?" He asks and smiles at me.

"I'm great! Thank you! By the way this is my boyfriend Hayes." I introduce them and shake their hand.

"Hey buddy!" Adam says and Hayes says "Nice to meet you man"

We then all sit in the kitchen for about 30 minutes talking while my mom finishes cooking.

Let me just say, he is the coolest, funniest guy I've ever met.

"Oh my God stop I'm gonna pee myself!" I say as I laugh SO HARD. Again, he's probably the funniest person I've ever met.

A couple more minutes go by and my mom Sets up a plate for her and Adam. Me and Hayes go back upstairs.

"Spa/ movie night?" Hayes suggests.

"I'm starting to question if my boyfriend is actually my GIRLFRIEND?" I say and he rolls his eyes.

"It's for you, Dakota." He says.

"Yeah sure it is. Now come here and let's do a face mask." I say as we put one on.

For the rest of the night, we watch stranger things (my favorite show), and just talked, ate candy, did face masks, etc. It was an awesome night.
