if you are to love,

312 48 17

if you are to love me,
don't be selfish.
don't be selfish and
keep me to yourself.
let me go, set me free.
clip wings on my tired
limbs and pour
stardust on my eyelashes.
let me taste lips of many,
and let me break my heart.
and you'd ask why
should you let me do such
a treacherous thing.
i'll whisper and say that
humans are born to
learn and heal.
i hope you'll smile at
the courage of my little heart
and realise that you
are finally giving your love
to a human, not a body.
and for this love,
i'll give you a present -
instead of being selfish
and curating you as a
memory in my heart,
i'll write you memoir,
let you roam libraries
and be tossed from
one hand to other.
i'll set you free, darling.
i'll let you love,
but not just me.

If you are to love, set them free.
