Pink locks springing with each step,
confidence oozing from your smirk.
The way you walked with such ease,
like the world bowed down to you,
I thought that it was amazing.

How comfortable you felt,
wearing your odd outfits,
with your lightly freckled cheeks,
and oversized, torn sneakers.

So when we stood next to each other,
I was trembling.
I wanted so badly to talk to you,
because I saw myself in you.

We both had so much confidence,
but under it all,
we both needed a friend.
Solitude is unbearable at times.

I imagined how we could have so much fun together,
how we could shake this world,
till it's upside down.

Because we both needed support,
and somebody to grasp onto,
to hug when times got rough.

Yet I stood there,
completely rigid,
all just because I had social anxiety.
I regret not saying hello to her.

I could have finally made a friend,
I could have finally felt happier,
I could have finally not been alone.

Now I stand here again,
but you are not here like last time.
I'm alone as always.
