Maybe I love too much and show it too little.

Faking a smile, Tony Stark slowly shook his head, refusing the drink Laura was handing out to everyone.

"You're not one to refuse alcohol, Stark." She gave him a funny questioning look, and he responded with one of his smirks.

"What can I say?" He leaned back, throwing his hand over the couch, "I'm a changed man."

"I have a hard time believing that, Tin Can." Clint threw his head backwards in laughter, wrapping an arm around his wife.

"You okay?" Romanoff frowned, she too, noticing his unusual behaviour of refusing the thing he drinks the most.

"What're you talking about, I'm fine."

Except he wasn't, and even he knew that.

"Why, you worried?" He teased, and she rolled her eyes like she usually does.

"Well, you're hand is all bloody." She pointed at his bruised knuckles, and tilted her head to the side, knowing well enough that Tony Stark wasn't exactly a violent person.

It didn't make any sense, Stark would very easily win an argument using only his sarcasm, and even that was a massive understatement.

"You wanna kiss it better?" He shot her a wink, and surprisingly she laughed, bumping him on the shoulder before maintaining her serious look yet again.

"Seriously though, you haven't been punching people recently have you?"

His attitude gave nothing away, yet that didn't surprise her.

Tony Stark was pretty hard to read, even for her.

Hell, the whole universe could be falling apart, and he would be kidding around, wearing a grin.

He could be a blink away from tears right now for all she knew, and yet he was smiling.

He was never big on emotions, he didn't like them on display, he didn't like to show them to anyone, and she wondered how Evelyn managed to stir him clear of that usual attitude of his, and get him for once to be open with her.

She felt sorry for the billionaire playboy because even she knew that he loved Evelyn just as much as she loved him.

His mistakes were unforgivable, no doubt.

But she cared about her teammate, and best friend, and she wanted them back together.

Because even though he never admitted that he was never over her, she knew that he never would get over her.

Not even years from now.

Because Evelyn Ross was different and special in every single way possible.

She was kind-hearted, polite even when circumstances weren't ideal for her to be.

Natasha wondered how the hell they ended up together in the first place, but even she couldn't answer that question.

All she knew was that the love they shared wasn't by any means staged.

The love they shared was raw, and real.

And maybe that was all he needed in his life, someone like her.

Someone like Evelyn.

She wasn't sure why she was thinking about her right now, but she had indeed picked up the fact that no other woman had stepped foot in the tower or the compound for the year that they had been a team.

She was well aware of the fact that Tony Stark had not so much glanced at another woman for as long as she could remember, and given his former reputation as a playboy that was saying a lot.

It shocked pretty much the entire team, but the only people who were stunned the least were Pepper, Rhodey, and herself.

Because they had all seen him with her.

They had seen how happy, and loved he felt with her, and judging by the 'Tony' she was staring at now, she realised that he was as sure as hell different than he was back then.

"Tony, can you watch the kids for a second?" Laura asked, and he nervously rubbed the back of his neck.

Couldn't she have asked Steve?

"I'm not exactly good with kids," he chuckled nervously, drawing a laugh from everyone else.

"I'm sure you'll be fine." She teased, and grabbed all the empty cups to the kitchen, with Tony heading up to the children's bedroom.

"Hi, I'm-"

"Iron Man!" The boy ran, and hugged Tony's leg, grinning from ear to ear.

"Yeah! Okay, you know who I am."

Tony smiled, hoping that he would get through this without fucking up.

Stepping on a lego, Tony moved back quickly, cursing in response.

"Fuck."

His eyes widened, as he watched the kid frown, and in the same moment Clint walked in.

"You alright, Stark?"

"Yeah, I'm...I'm fine."

No.

No.

He was definitely not fine, he was panicking.

"Are you-"

"Fuck."

The kid interrupted his father, and Tony bit his lip, and clenched his eyes shut.

In his defence, he did warn them.

"Clint!" Laura snapped, carrying her son, and telling him not to repeat that word.

"I told you not to curse in the house!" She pointed a judgemental finger at him, and just as he was about to protest, Stark interrupted.

"I know! I tell him that all the time, kids pick up all sorts of words, and he should really be careful." Tony innocently addressed Laura, who nodded in response, proud of Tony for once.

"Thank you! That's what I have been saying since forever. You need to take classes from Tony. Unbelievable." She screamed at Clint, her son cringing at her high pitched voice.

Clint was already protesting with his jaw hitting the floor, and Tony just gave him a smug smile.

'I'm going to fucking shoot you in the ass!'

He mouthed, drawing a laugh out of Stark, who blew him kisses on his way out, leaving him there all alone to face his wife's lecture.
