“Pervert” I muttered under my breath as I walked towards my locker. “You know it’s not nice to call people names!” He yelled across the hall. “Well, you know it’s not nice to be an idiot in public!” I yelled back. “Oooh I like em feisty” He said. I rolled my eyes and took my math book out of my locker. I turned to walk down the hall but bumped into someone else instead. “Sorry” he said picking up my fallen books. “Oh, it’s no problem” I said. I looked up at him. Standing in front of me was the most gorgeous guy I had ever seen. He had dark brown hair that fell in his face a bit and he had dark eyes and a goofy but adorable smile. He handed me my books but I dropped them again. I laughed nervously. “Sorry about that…” I said. He smiled. “It’s alright” He picked up my books again and handed them to me.

“I’m Riley, by the way” He said. Riley… I like it. “Kyra” I said. Riley stood there for a minute staring at me. “Alright… I have to get to class” He said. “Okay” I said. “Maybe I’ll see you around” Riley said smiling. I smiled. “Maybe” Riley and I walked our separate ways and I couldn’t help but feel sad. Something about him just made me feel so… happy and whole. I went on to math and couldn’t help but think about where Riley was at. I hoped I’d see him again really soon…After the bell rang I shot out of class and ran to my locker. I threw my books inside and grabbed my bag. I rummaged around inside of it for a little bit in hopes I’d be there whenever Riley walked by but I didn’t have any luck… I frowned and sighed.

“Are you sad?” Someone asked. I didn’t feel like talking to anyone. Especially about being sad because I didn’t see a guy I had just met. I turned around but no one was there anymore. I sighed again and started walking home. Weeks went by and I hadn’t seen Riley again. I tried to stay positive but I didn’t want to. I may have just met Riley but I could feel some connection between us. There was just something there… I know there was. I just haven’t seen him again to see if it’s still there. About a month passed since I first saw Riley and I was starting to think that’d I’d never see him again… I was getting my bag out of my locker when someone tapped me on the shoulder. I turned around. “Riley!” I cried. I felt my face getting read and so I turned around and shoved my face back into my locker.

“Hey Kyra” Riley said. “I’m sorry I haven’t talked to you lately, I’ve just been so busy” “It’s okay” I lied. “Do you think you might want to come hang out with me today?” Riley asked nervously. “Yeah, I guess” I said. I tried to stay calm but inside I was screaming at the top of my lungs. “Well I’ve got band practice but you can come over still and we’ll hang out afterwards, alright?” Riley said. I nodded. “Fine by me” I said. Riley smiled. “Well let’s go then” he said. The two of us started walking home. “So how have you been this month?” Riley asked. “I’ve been better” “Aww… what’s wrong?” Riley asked. I was quiet. “Kyra?” Riley asked. I looked over at him. “What’s wrong?” He asked again. “I can’t tell you… you’d laugh at me” I said. “No I won’t” Riley said. “I promise” I could tell from the concern in his eyes that he was telling the truth. “I can’t tell you… not right now anyways” I said. “Oh… okay…” Riley said.

We got to his house and he unlocked the door. “Practice is in the basement so just follow me” Riley said. I followed Riley down to the basement and three other guys where already down there. One was quite tall and he had dark brown hair and green eyes, the second was shorter than the first but taller than Riley and he had gorgeous hair… it was blonde and brown and kind of auburn at the same time and he had green eyes also, then the third was shorter than all of them and looked a lot younger too. He looked almost exactly like Riley… “Kyra, this is Toby, my younger brother” Riley said pointing to the younger guy. “And the tall guy is Braiden” Braiden smiled and waved. “And I’m Connor” the third boy said. “I’m Riley’s older brother” “I’m Kyra” I said smiling. “Oh are you now?” Connor asked curiously. He glanced at Riley. “Might you be the Kyra my dear brother has not stopped talking about all month?”

I looked at Riley; his face had turned a dark shade of red. “Shut up, Connor!” Riley cried. “Just helping you out” Connor said. I wonder what he meant by that… “Where’s Thomas at?” Riley asked changing the subject. “Not here yet” Connor said. “Well I can see that” Riley said rolling his eyes. “He’ll be here in about ten minutes” Braiden said. “Then Kyra and I are going to take a walk” Riley said. He lightly tapped my back and we walked back upstairs and then outside. “Sorry about Connor” Riley said. “He likes to pick on me…” “It’s alright” I said. “That’s what brothers do” Riley and I continued to walk down his street. Riley’s hand brushed up against mine and a few minutes later he took it. “Riley…” I said. “Hmm” Riley said. “Can I tell you something?” I asked. “I don’t see why not” Riley said. I took a deep breath. “I like this guy…” I said. “I only met him a few weeks ago but I still really like him and I don’t know what to do… that’s why I’ve been so out of it lately” “Oh…” Riley said.

He let go of my hand. “What is it you want to know?” Riley asked. My hand brushed against Riley’s again and I tried to take it but he jerked it away. I frowned. “What can I do?” I asked. Riley shrugged. “Guys like a girl who’ll tell them she likes him… Who won’t hide it and make us do all of the work” Riley said. “Or at least I do… most guys don’t know what they like or want” I was quiet for a little bit. “It’s been ten minutes, we should go back now” Riley said. We turned around but I didn’t continue walking. Riley turned around. “You coming?” He asked. “First… I have to tell you something first though” I said. “What is it?” Riley asked. I took a deep breath and clasped Riley’s face and kissed him. Riley stared at me and blushed. “You’re the guy, stupid” I told him. “Oh!” Riley cried. He grinned and grabbed my hand again. “Why didn’t you say so?” He asked. “I told you… I was scared”

Riley and I walked back to his house and down to the basement. Riley forgot to let go of my hand so Connor saw and cried “Ah-ha! I told you I was helping you” Riley shook his head. “Shut up, Connor” I smiled. “It’s alright” I said. “I’m Thomas” the boy who, well, is Thomas said walking over to me. “I’m Kyra” I said smiling. “My girlfriend” Riley said wrapping his arms around me. Riley’s girlfriend… I thought. I like the sound of that. I sat down on the couch next to Toby and we started talking a little bit as the other guys practiced. Toby told me a lot about Riley. By the end of practice, you would have never guess I’d only know Riley for a month… And even though I hated it to begin with, I’m glad I went a month without seeing him. Otherwise, I couldn’t say I’m his girl.
