“Hey, is it okay of we come and pick you up from the airport?” I asked Kane as I sat on the couch in the living room watching TV.

“Sharp and Tazer don’t know that you are staying with me.” His voice was quiet in the phone.

“They are going to end up finding out sometime and they probably already realize something’s up because you played better on this road trip.”

He chuckled into the phone. “Yeah well they haven’t said anything yet, but I’m sure it’s coming.”

“Hell yeah it’s coming,” I said loudly. “You actually set something up for a power play goal and that’s the most you have done in a while.”

“Yes, you’re right.” I could hear the sigh in his voice.

“I don’t want to be the one to point this out but you have been playing a lot better since we moved in with you. You’ll play even better after you’ve had some of my cooking.” It was almost… easy to talk to him like this.

“I’ll take you up on that when I get home later today, but you don’t have to pick me up.”

I laughed and shut off the TV. “It’s not really me that would be picking you up. Bay and Sophia missed you and thought that it would be a good idea to pick you up.”

I could hear his smirk. “You mean that Bay thought about this and Sophia would go along with it anyway.”

“Yup, that’s basically it. If that’s good with you then I will go pick up Bay from school and start heading your way.”

He sighed into the phone. “Yeah, that sounds like a plan. See you in a couple hours.”

Bay jumped around the in the airport waiting area while I tried to fix the little dress and leggings she was wearing. “I’m … so… excited…” she breathed as she hopped around.

“Will you stop moving? I am trying to fix your dress.” She stopped moving long enough for me to fix her twisted leggings.

Bay lunged away from me and grabbed Sophia’s hand to drag her to the window.  They looked outside at the tarmac where planes were rolling in and out. She pointed to her little sister where different things were.

I checked my phone one last time just to see if Kane had texted me anything. Maybe he would have texted me some sort of warning if Jonathan has said anything about Kane’s playing. Either way the captain of the Blackhawks was going to find out.

“I think they are here,” Bay said pulling me over to the window.

I looked at the plane that had no one near it and wasn’t even moving. “How long has that been there?”

She shrugged her shoulders. “I wasn’t paying attention.”

I ran a hand over my braid that lay over my shoulder to smooth the hair. “Well that would have been nice to know.”

A mob of familiar faces began to walk through the airport’s private waiting area. I stood on the tiptoes of my high tops to see Kane in the crowd. Despite myself I was excited to see him. I liked sitting and watching TV with him after the girls had gone to sleep... even if we barely spoke.

Suddenly I saw the familiar blond curls and Bay and Sophia dashed off to see him. They weaved between the men and bags only to throw themselves at Kane’s legs. He dropped his jacket to wrap them both in a tight hug.
