"You can go in and see him now, if you want," said a nurse. Rosie stood up, eyes red from crying, and followed the woman into her little brother's hospital room. The nurse gave her a sympathetic smile and then left, and she stood in the doorway just staring at him in the white bed.
"Hey Nosy," he whispered. She wanted to slap him, wanted to burst out crying, but she'd ran out of tears and so she just stood there in silence. "Where are Mam and Dad?" asked Isaac.
"Outside," she told him. "Mam wants to disown you. Dad's trying to calm her down."
"Oh God."
A small, bitter smile quirked at her lips.
"Exactly," she said, and came to sit at the foot of his bed. He held out a hand and she took it, forgetful for a moment of how angry she was with him.
"I-"
He cut himself off, and when she looked up there were tears running down his face. She hadn't seen him cry in so long, not since they were little kids-
"Oh Isaac," she choked out, and pulled him into a hug.
