Coming to the cafe, I didn't expect to see you there in all honesty. You hadn't been at school for a couple days and weren't here yesterday either. Maybe you needed the money, maybe you couldn't find someone to cover your shift. Whatever it was, you were here.

I had someone else take my order, quietly telling them my order and handing over my money silently.

You watched from where you were pretending to sweep an already spotless area on the tile, hands clenched around the broom handle. Your eyes flitted over me with every single one of my movements.

I waited for the drink to be made, a caramel coffee because my eyes threatened to drop shut because of utter exhaustion spent worrying and preparing for tests.

And the sad part?

I left the shop after my drink was done, you watching from your spot sweeping, looking towards me helplessly.
