Smut in this chapter (quickie, but rough ;D).
~9:58PM~
"[Name], how are you holding up?" Jayden asks while walking over to my desk at the police station.
"I'm doing pretty good for someone who had a gun to their head a few hours ago," I laugh, and we exchange a quick hug. "Thanks for coming here, Jay," I tell him quietly.
"It's no problem, but we need to talk about your living situation now."
"What's going on?"
Jayden sits down in a chair, and leans forward on my desk. "The Attorney General wants you put into protective custody until we catch whoever is trying to have you killed or framed," he explains, and I narrow my eyes.
"Where are they keeping me? What about Connor? He does live with me after all."
"Connor, your father, and your mother are also being put into protective custody, so don't worry about them."
"Where will we be staying?" I murmur while staring at my hands.
"I'll show you. You can't live in this apartment anymore, and Connor was telling me you were thinking about getting a new one. I found a place I think you'd like."
"How far is it from here?"
"Only a few blocks away. It's brand new and it's a penthouse with more security precautions. We'll still have agents stationed there for your protection, but the security features will still be nice to have once this is all over." Jayden shows me a picture of the building and layout of the penthouse.
I sigh and lean forward in my seat, eyeing the picture, before looking into Jayden's piercing blue eyes. "How much is this place, Jayden?"
"Eight-hundred thousand."
"Holy shit!" Jayden laughs at my shock, before pulling out a manila envelope and handing it to me. I narrow my eyes and he gestures me to open it. "I swear Jayden if you-"
"Just open the envelope already."
I huff and flip open the tab, turning the envelope upside down and shaking out the contents from inside. A slip of paper with a code on it falls onto my desk, and my eyebrows furrow in confusion.
"What is this for?" I ask while picking up the paper.
"It's the code to the penthouse. We already sold your old apartment, and the bureau paid the rest for the new one. Enjoy it, [Name]."
"Jayden," I set the code down and send my close friend a smile, "thank you. I could've paid for it on my own, so this wasn't necessary. But, I really don't want to be locked away in a penthouse. I'm more useful out in the field."
"I know you are, so your protective custody isn't really a protective custody. You'll be watched by some federal agents, and there will be one working undercover at your new apartment complex to see if anyone shows up for you that's unexpected."
"Will I have privacy in my own home though?"
Jayden smirks and nods his head. "Yes, you'll have privacy in the comfort of your home, so there's no need to worry about you and Connor-" I cut him off with a raise of my hand, causing him to chuckle.
"I get it, Jay, and thank you," I sigh, before seeing my father gesture us over.
"Interrogation is probably about to start," Jayden says, and we stand up and walk over to my father. "Nice to see, Lieutenant Anderson."
