-Sirius Black-
The first thing I saw when the green flames melted away was McGonogal's thunderous gaze waiting for us in Dumbledor's office.
As quick as possible we all tumbled out of the fireplace yelling for her to seal it off and to her credit she did it without yelling, without tearing us apart. She just flew over and with a flick of her wand and a muttered spell a gold wraught-iron gate appeared over the fireplace, metal that severed the link between us and the rest of the world.
We stood there, looking at the sealed off fireplace, only the sound of our ragged breathing breaking up the silence.
"What in the bloody hell do you think you're doing!"
We turned to face the music.
"Professor, I can explain..." James began, holding up his hands in a surrender.
"You damn well better explain why you would throw away every piece of protection we have ever given to you. Every sleepless night we have spent guarding your rooms because the dark lord chose you!" She growled, sounding the most serious I have ever seen her been.
"Well?" She demanded as we stood in scolded silence. "Explain!"
"We had to know, Professor." It was Stella who spoke, who stepped forward with somber eyes. "We had to know our place in all of this, why he wanted our death so badly. When he left us the prophecy record we knew that was our only way of finding out. To find our own."
I expected a flurry of McGonogal anger, or in the very least for her to say something but she didn't. She just looked at us with wide searching eyes, trying to understand.
It was Dumbledor who spoke.
McGonogal hadn't even given us the chance to realise he was in the room, but there he was standing on the steps before his desk looking at us over his half-moon spectacles.
"Did you find it?" He asked, his voice careful.
Stella nodded.
"And did you find what you were looking for?"
"Not exactly." James replied. "I mean we did, but it wasn't what we were expecting."
Dumbledore smiled at that, but it came out more like a grimace. "Nothing ever is, Mr Potter."
"What did it say?" McGonogal asked, still trying to understand.
There was a breath of hesitation as we all tried to find the words to explain. Lily took one for the team.
"A baby. The baby of..." I saw her eyes flicker to James as she paused, before saying "two of us. Is going to be the end of Voldemort."
Another breath of hesitation as McGonogal and Dumbledor comprehended her words.
