DEAN HOLDS A CANDLESTICK, hitting it repeatedly against the wall in an attempt to break it. “The angels made this place.” I tell him sadly. “There isn’t a way out.”
“There has to be.” Dean says to me. I nod, watching as he makes a small hole in the wall, showcasing a dark abyss behind it. In an instant, the hole is gone, and the wall is fixed.
“Well fuck you too!” I scream at the ceiling. In a moment of pure rage and frustration, I grab one of the beers on the table and whip it at the wall, feeling slight relief as I watch it shatter.
I watch as Dean throws the candlestick on the ground. “Son of a bitch.” He says.
“I can see the family resemblance. You’ve both got a filthy mouth on you.” A voice says from behind us. Dean and I turn, seeing Zachariah, looking smug as always. “Quit hurling feces like a howler monkey, would you? It’s unbecoming.” He says.
I roll my eyes and watch as Dean steps towards the smart-ass angel. “Let us out of here.” Dean says.
“Like I told you, too dangerous out there- demons on the prowl.”
“I’ve been getting my ass kicked all year. Now you’re sweating my safety? You’re lying.” Dean says to the dishonest angel.
“Too dangerous out there? Now would that be too dangerous for us? Or for you?” I ask, accusing Zachariah.
“We want to see our brother.” Dean tells the angel, knowing he probably wouldn’t comply.
“That’s…ill-advised.”
“You know, I am so sick of your crap riddles and your smug, fat face. What the hell is going on, huh? Why can’t we see Sam? And how are we gonna ice Lilith?” Dean yells.
I freeze, finally understanding what has been happening all along. “We’re not. We didn’t swear to help them defeat Lilith. We swore to stand by and watch as…” I trail off, my eyes wide.
“Your inhuman half-sister is right, you’re not going to ice Lilith.” Zachariah confesses. I gain the sudden urge to hit him. If only that would do us justice.
“What?” Dean asks, incredulously.
“You want the apocalypse…we can stop this. That’s why we’re here, isn’t it? We can stop it, but for some sick, twisted reason, you want the apocalypse.” I inquire, feeling betrayed. Did Cas know?
“Right again. Lilith is going to break the final seal. Fait acompli at this point. The train has left the station.” Zachariah says, walking over to an old-looking couch as sits down.
“But Rowan and I…we can stop this.” Dean says.
“Dean, don’t you get it? They want the apocalypse. They always have.” I tell him, my eyes wide and my heart pounding.
