Taking a long and relieving drag from the joint in hand, Matty passed it over to Alex. He stared off into the distance of the rising sun and the morning birds singing their way into the day. He couldn't help but feel cut off from the rest of the world...because lately, Ellie was his world. She was his only thrill, his lady, his muse. He began to wonder if she'd ever come back...why would she leave him? Where did they stand, for him to not be an important enough factor to be informed, or even to come with.

He took the joint again as Alex passed it back, feeling no different than before even with Alex's new awareness of himself. It was no different, getting high with him, or conversing with him. No different, being in his presence.

He couldn't help but glance over a few houses down at Holly's. Everything was quite new to him, and he couldn't quite grasp the concept of her seducing Alex at all. She wasn't exactly the most attractive girl in his opinion, he didn't blame Alex for not wanting to fuck her. He almost hated her himself, for making things so hard for them...after all, if it wasn't for her, Ellie would be there.

He sighed, taking his eyes from the house and taking a long and hard hit, holding in the smoke as he passed it back for Alex to finish off. He closed his eyes as he exhaled the smoke, allowing it to flow through his nose and mouth smoothly and into the air.

He opened them again, seeing Adam's car approaching. He and Alex stood up, seeing Ellie getting out of the passenger's side.

"I'm gonna kill you. Where the hell have you been?! We spent all night searching these damn streets for you!" Alex raged.

Ellie stood still, staring at Matty. It was as if she could feel the same pain he felt, through his eyes. She questioned in her mind how he and Alex could possibly have come together after what happened.

Adam got out as well, shutting the door behind him, "Alex, before you get mad--"

"Where was she?" He cut in.

"She was with me." Adam answered,

Alex glared at Ellie as she turned to Adam, "thanks." She said, "I mean it." She smiled awkwardly before she passed Alex and Matty and went inside.

Matty turned around, watching her go...he couldn't understand how she could just avoid him, and not say a single word. He couldn't understand how she always seemed to make him chase her...he was tired, tired of running. He was exhausted of their relationship that didn't even hold a title of its own. He looked at Adam, they couldn't have fucked. She wouldn't have, he wouldn't have.

Ellie sat her bag down next to the door, neglecting the thoughts of Matty, and the remembrance of him and Alex fighting. She went up to the bathroom and started the shower, closing the door behind her. She stared at herself in the mirror, her appearance worse than it had ever been...with tired eyes and tousled hair.

She undressed and stepped into the shower, closing her eyes as the warm water hit her skin...all she could see was Matty, and the memories they held together. From the rooftop to the night he told her he loved her. She wanted him, only him, and she didn't care what anyone thought. She'd never felt a love so real...with anyone. She cleansed herself and stepped out, and turning off the water.

She grabbed a towel from the hook and wrapped it around herself, pulling her hair back and squeezing it out. The door opened, it was Matty. Seeing her in only her towel he shut it quickly, standing on the other side.

"I'm sorry..." he said, running his hands through his hair, holding his breath as he held back question...of why. Why she was being so distant.

"It's alright..." she opened the door.

He took a step inside and shut it behind him, looking at her before they both looked into the mirror...not at the reflection of their selves...but at one another's. There was a brief silence, Ellie watched him, every bit of him. From his hair, to his black slouchy t-shirt...and the little holes all around it...

She took a deep breath, "Sorry, I look--"

"Beautiful." He finished.

Her bright eyes lit up, as a small smile soon spread across her face.

"Man, I'm so high." He said slowly, and with tight low eyes she knew it was true..."I think I love you."

She laughed softly, "I think I love you too..."

"I was thinking about leaving again," he said slowly.

Ellie turned and looked at the real him, as the reflection was getting old.

"It all depends, are we just friends?" He asked, "and you can move a little bit if you can."

"What do you mean?" She asked.

"Did you sleep with Adam?" He asked.

"Of course not...Matty...why would you even wonder." She said.

His eyes couldn't help but trail down from her's, to the collarbones to her bare shoulders, to the start of her breasts. He quickly returned them to her eyes, now feeling even more jealous if she had.

"I was just asking." He said. He'd never had a lady friend who didn't try to sleep with one of his friends...she was the first.

"I'm not like that." She said quietly, "did you and Alex really look for me together?" She asked.

He nodded.

"After he punched you like that?" She asked.

He nodded again, she could tell he was too high to have a coherent conversation.

"Wow..." she said.

"For you, babe its anobrain." He said.

She laughed and cupped his face in her hands, kissing his lips. "A no brainer you mean?"

He rolled his eyes, nodding.

"Can we talk more about us...somewhere else...that's not my washroom?" She said.

He nodded again, looking down into her eyes.

Ellie grabbed the keys from the hook, looking at Alex as he watched her and Matty carefully. She felt odd in front of him, hoping he wouldn't give her a long parental lecture, imagining if he had children of his own he'd be the most annoying father.

To her surprise, he didn't.

"Be safe." He said, "I'm watching you, Matthew."

Matty turned around to see him smiling. He laughed slightly, shaking his head, "alright."

Ellie looked at Alex in confusion, why is he being so nice all of a sudden? She analyzed him before she finally stepped out of the house, unlocking the doors as they'd be taking her mother's car to the edge of town. And they'd drive...and go 'round and 'round.
