Quick A/n again: I find it very odd that I have 37 unpublished drafts from this and another story I haven't published combined. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the new chapter! More chapters because my birthday is coming up!
-Terri <3~Your POV~
It's been a few days since the twins have been adopted. When I got engaged. When I moved in with Laf. Right now, we're laying on the couch. Laf is reading a book while his head is resting on mine. My head is resting on his shoulder while I sketch.
"Mon amour?"
"Hm?"
"Why are you drawing John?"
I feel my eyes get watery. "I miss him, Laf. I miss him so much. I can't believe I was stuck in Britain getting pampered while you all were fighting and getting severely hurt. I can't stand to know that when he was dying, I was probably having the time of my life. I can't do this! I have to draw him. He can't be lost. He won't be gone!" I cry into his chest, my sketchbook falling to the ground. "I miss all of his freckles. I miss the jokes he told to cheer me up. I miss him flirting with me. I miss his beautiful, curly hair. Why couldn't it have been me!? I would've gladly given up my life for his! Why did he have to be put through this!? He could be standing here. He could've stayed with his daughter."
"Ma cheri... I miss him, too. Alex wouldn't stop crying. Even now, 'e tears up when 'is name is mentioned. Alex loved him."
"And you think that I didn't!?" I take my sketchbook and run out the door to Aaron's house.
Aaron immediately brought me into a hug, trying to calm me down. "Y/n..."
"Aaron, I-I miss h-h-him..."
Aaron didn't have to speak to understand who I was talking about. All he had to do was glance at my sketchbook. There were teardrops staining the page. The shading had gotten all messed up.
"I know... You've been affected the most... I know, Y/n..."
"Aaron, thanks."
He nods, kissing my forehead. A woman walks in.
"Why hello there Aaron. This must be Y/n."
"Th-Theo!"
I looked at him, confused.
"Let me explain, Y/n. This is Theodosia, my wife."
"You didn't invite me to the wedding!?"
"We didn't have one. We just privately got married. Sorry for not telling you until now."
"It's fine. Now, I want to be an aunt!"
Aaron chuckles nervously. "We already have a child."
"WHAT!? AARON BURR YOU DARE NOT TELL ME ABOUT YOUR WIFE AND CHILD UNTIL NOW!?"
He flinched. "Sorry. Theo and Theo Jr. just moved in a few days ago..."
"Can I see my niece? Theodosia Jr, right?"
"Mhm, let me go get her. She's playing with her dolls right now. Theo!" Theodosia Sr. calls out.
A little girl with curly hair tied up in pigtails came into the room. She held two dolls with her left hand. She looked a little bit younger than the twins.
"Momma, who is that?"
"This is your Auntie Y/n."
"Is this your sissie?"
"No, she's dada's closest friend. So close that she is your auntie." Theodosia explained.
"Hi Auntie Y/n!" She gave me a big smile.
"Hi there! You're Theodosia, right?"
She nods, giggling.
"You look so pretty! Who did your hair?"
"Momma!"
I smiled at Theodosia Sr.
"Aaron, why did you keep this adorable girl away from me!?"
"You were, um, busy?"
"Lies."
"I didn't want to tell you because you were mourning over John still. I didn't want Theo to see you crying."
I bite my lip, trying not to cry again.
We hear a knock on the door. Both Theodosias and I go into another room while Aaron opens the door.
I can hear Laf's thick French accent from here. "Bonjour, mon ami. Do you know where Y/n is?"
"No. Even if I did, why would I tell you?"
"Because I need to tell her 'zat I am truly sorry for comparing her grief to Alex's."
"Alright. If I see her, I'll relay the message. Good day."
I can practically see Aaron politely nodding Laf off. I hear the door being closed. Aaron's footsteps get louder as he walks towards the room we were in.
"Y/n, Laf has a message that he'd like you to hear." He jokes.
"Oh really? I never knew!" I roll my eyes.
"The sarcasm in this room is making me feel congested." Theodosia Sr. remarks slyly.
"I see why Aaron likes you." I laugh.
Theodosia joins in. Aaron chuckles reservedly. Theo looks up at the three of us.
"Why is mommy laughing? Why is daddy laughing? Why is auntie laughing?"
"Dada said something funny, Theo." Theodosia explains.
Theo's mouth forms an "o" as she pretends to understand us. We all ignore that she is pretending.
"Anyways, Thomas adopted twins. Well, James got one, but Thomas got the other!"
"Wait, what!? Thomas adopted kids!? Doesn't he have tons of them?"
I roll my eyes at Aaron. "Mary and Martha are the only two that he actually kept. The ones with Sally were sold, and the others with Martha died I think... Oh, Martha Sr. I mean. Whoops! Anyways, I convinced him to adopt, so would you like to rethink your question?"
"Yep. Why did you want him to adopt?"
"Because I saw the twins there, and I knew that I couldn't take them in. Thomas has a mansion, and so does James, so I asked them to take care of the twins. They're such polite young ladies. I'm sure that Theo would get along with them."
"Wouldn't that be nice?"
"Well, I've probably overstayed my welcome. I'll be going back to Monticello."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. I gotta talk to John Paul about something anyways."
"John... Paul...?"
"Yeah! He takes in runaways and orphans and stuff like that. He nurses them back to health."
"John Paul...?"
"Jones. John Paul Jones. He was a sailor for the revolution."
"Oh, that's how I recognize the name."
"Mhm. Anyways, good day to all of you. I'll visit soon enough!"
I wave goodbye to little Theo. She runs up to me and hugs me. "I'll miss you, auntie Y/n!"
I chuckle. "I will, too."
