Jade's POV

Jax opened the file in his hands.

I place my laptop an a chair next to me.

"You used to be in the military?" He asked.

"Yeah. Marine Corps."

"Why did you leave?"

I hesitated. "Wrong career."

I lied.

There's no way I'm telling him what happened.

I will not bring up the past.

"And I see that your father was in the military as well. Same division, too."

"I wanted to follow his footsteps."

"But you still left because it wasn't the right career?" His eyebrows furrowed.

"I left for my own reasons. Just leave it be."

"Alright, sorry. What is a special trait you possess?"

"Why do you want to know?"

"Is that hard to answer? It's just a simple question."

"Fine." I thought about it for a second. "I'm resourceful."

"That could be very useful."

"Ok, it's my turn to ask a question. What with all the questions!?" I got up from my seat.

"You got the job."

My eyebrows creased. "What?"

"Your interview is finished and you got the job." He put down the file and smiled.

"You brought me up this tall ass building go give me an interview that I didn't even know about!?"

"Yes, exactly."

"Why?"

"You needed a job and I had an opening. Also, this is the only way I could get you to speak honestly. I did the same this with Nick."

"Did he feel like he should jump out the window too?"

"Not that I know of."

"I told you I didn't want you to give me anything."

"I didn't give you anything. You earned this job."

I glared. "Can you at least tell me what the job is?"

"You are now my bodyguard and assistant."

"Assistant? I am no one's assistant. I am not going to be a slave."

"You're not. That's why you are also my bodyguard."

"Why did you chose me?"

"It's not because you saved me."

"Then why?"

"You seemed like a good choice. You have many survival skills, and they are useful for protection."

"Your protection." I corrected.

"Exactly. As you know there are many people trying to get to me, to kill me or not. Your job is to make sure they don't get to me."

I pinched the bridge of my nose.

"Why don't you have a bodyguard?" I asked.

"In the past, I would always ditch them because the wouldn't let me do anything."

"How do I know you won't ditch me?"

"You strike me as a person you would run into the flames. More of a bodyguard than a nanny."
