Tom looked across the dinner table at the beautiful blonde lady sitting opposite him as she sipped a glass of wine, and he smiled to himself, reminding himself how lucky he was to be sat with her. 'You Are The Reason' by Calum Scott and Leona Lewis played gently through the restaurant speakers.
"Have you had a good day?" he asked her as he cut his steak.
"Yes. I've really enjoyed it, thank you," Allegra smiled back, placing her half-full wine glass on the table in front of her.
"I'm very glad," he smiled at her before chewing a piece of steak. He observed her as he ate, a question popping into his head, and waited until he had swallowed his food before asking. "Do you like dinner events?"
Allegra looked at him as she wrapped her spaghetti around her fork, wondering what he meant by the term 'dinner events'.
"Like this?" she asked.
"No. Bigger," he told her with a shake of his head. "Bigger events with dancing and wine and lots of drunk, happy people."
"I've never been to one," Allegra blushed as she finished a mouthful of spaghetti.
"Would you like to?" he asked.
Allegra chuckled to herself, tucking a stray blonde lock behind her ear and looking down at the remainder of her meal.
"I mean, sure," she said. "We'd have to find one though."
Tom shook his head as he chewed.
"There's one in November," he told her after he swallowed his food.
"Is there?"
"In LA," he nodded.
Allegra nodded slowly, taking in the information.
"Ok. What's it in aid of?"
Tom looked at her in silence for a moment, placing his knife and fork down against the plate. He leant forwards slightly and smiled gently to himself, lowering his eyes as he spoke his next words.
"The People's Choice Awards."
"What? Are you serious?!" Allegra gasped.
"Do you want to go with me?" he smirked, his tongue running gently over his lip in anticipation.
"I would love to!" Allegra laughed, her hands clapping to her mouth in surprise.
"Great," Tom grinned, picking up his cutlery to resume his meal.
Suddenly a waitress approached their table, a blank expression on her face as she handed Allegra a thin piece of paper.
"A note for you, ma'am," the American waitress said before trotting off to clear tables.
"Uh, thank you," Allegra replied with a frown.
She opened the note hesitantly, nausea flooding her stomach as she read the words. Her face turned pale and her heartbeat sped up as her body went cold.
"What is it?" Tom asked her.
"Uh... Nothing," she replied.
Written on the piece of paper in red writing were the words:
Steer clear of the wolf
