Violet

My body felt numb and exhausted as I slowly opened my eyes. A veil of darkness was covering my eyes, rendering me unable to inspect my surroundings. It took my eyes some time to adjust to the blinding darkness. That's when I realized I was in a small room, more like a prison.

I was sitting on a hard surface, probably a chair. My hands were tied to my back and there was tape over my mouth. Feeling claustrophobic suddenly, I tried to scream but the piece of tape cloaked my voice.

As I rotated my neck to examine the room, a sharp pain erupted from my jaw, where the man had hit me. I struggled for a few minutes to get free of the restraint but all in vain. Clenching my eyes tightly shut, I let a tear of helplessness escape my eyes.

Leaning my head back, I heaved a sigh of frustration. My mind wandered back to Ariel. I needed to know if she was alright. A wave of confusion passed through my mind when I remembered the words of that man. He said that I was the one his boss had told him about.

A shiver ran down my spine as the realization dawned on me. They were his men. He was back, my worst nightmare was back in town. I trembled in fear as a certain pair of blue eyes made an appearance back in my mind.

A twinge in my cheek pulled me out of my thoughts. Opening my eyes, I found the man with piercings standing in front of me. A scream left my mouth when he pulled the tape away from my lips.

"Shut up, you whore. You are not in a five-star hotel. Boss will be back soon. Don't you dare speak a word in front of him or else," he roared and my eyes widened. I felt my heart hammer inside my chest, threatening to come out of it.

"No, please. Let me go, I beg you. Please," I begged them, apprehension filling my mind.

"Aww, baby. Don't worry. Maybe I'll help you." His voice softened a bit as he walked behind me and untied my hands. As I stood up, my legs wobbled and I felt like I was going to pass out.

Using all my strength, I stepped forwards but his hand gripped my wrist and yanked me towards him. Turning me around forcefully, he grazed his index finger along my cheek.

"Not so fast, doll," he whispered in a hoarse voice and I felt nauseated. My fingers were curled into a fist, nails digging into my palm. I lunged my fist towards him which he caught in time.

Twisting my arm, he threw me on the floor and hovered over me. I tried opening my mouth but he clasped his hand over my mouth, muffling my screams.

"Ssshhh, we don't want anyone to hear us," He smirked and my eyes moistened. The memories of five years ago that I had pushed back to a corner of my mind resurfaced again.

"Quiet princess, your mother is not home. So, there is no point in screaming." the blue-eyed devil said.

"Mmmhh." I tried to scream but his large hand was covering my mouth.

He leaned towards my neck, placing sloppy kisses all the way down. Closing my eyes, I wished for this time to be over soon.

Pushing back the memories, I looked at the hideous man watching me with lust-filled eyes. I tried to move my legs to kick him but his legs were caging mine completely.

There was no way now. It took me many years to crawl out of the suffocating depression. And now, he was going to dump me back in it. And I was still as feeble as I was five years ago.

Gripping my hair tightly, he forced my head back and his lips came crashing down on mine. When I didn't respond, his fist connected with my jaw, at the same place he hit me earlier. Stars began appearing in front of my eyes and I grimaced at the pain.

Fortunately, he was soon disentangled from my body by someone. I squinted my eyes to have a clear look at that man but the darkness enveloped me before I could. The last thing I remember was a pair of the most alluring grey eyes I had even seen, gazing at me with surprise and confusion.

When I opened my eyes, I expected to see myself in the same dark room but a very beautiful room greeted me. The room was dimly lit with beige colored walls. Thick black velvet curtains hid the long windows across the wall. Two antique couches were placed against the wall in front of the bed. The bed itself was bigger than my whole room, its black-colored bedding feeling soft as silk against my skin.

As I tried to get up, I winced in pain. My whole body was aching. The image of what happened earlier flashed in my mind and agony filled my senses.

Ignoring the pain, I stood up but my legs faltered and I almost toppled over but a hand gripped my waist. I looked up only to find a handsome man smiling at me. He had green eyes and dark brown hair, his jaw was sharp and defined.

Creating some distance between us, I sat down on the bed and looked at him for answers. Who was he? What was I doing here?

"Here, take this medicine," he said, giving me two tablets.

"What's this?" I asked with doubt.

"These are for your pain. Don't worry, if I had any wrong intention, you won't be sitting here right now," he said chuckling and I glared at him.

"What is your name, kitten?" He asked, sitting beside me.

"Violet," I answered, looking around for the answers to the questions erupting in my mind.

"What happened to my kidnappers? Did you inform the police?" I inquired, afraid of meeting them again.

"I can't. They were our men."

Quickly, I retreated away from him and created more space between us. My voice stuttered, "Wh... What do you w... want?"

"Don't worry, kidnapping you was a mistake. They must have thought you are Cole's daughter. You are blonde and have blue eyes, just like her," he answered and my eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"Anna?" I asked and he hummed in response.

"Why?" I asked, still afraid as hell.

"I can't tell you that. Boss won't allow it. Just a little hint-- his father is not the saint he portrays himself as," he said.

"Boss?" I asked with an unsure voice.

"Yup. Hayden King," he responded.

The name shook me to the core. Hayden King was the most dangerous gangster of our town. In the last few years, I've heard his name many times in the news. His gang has killed many famous politicians, businessmen and journalists in our town. There are even rumors that he had connections with the mafia.

I stared at the man in front of me in disbelief. It was clear that he was one of them. A sudden chill swept through me and jumping out of the bed, I ran towards the door but it was locked.

"Where are you going?" he asked, walking towards me. He then pulled me away from the door.

"Please let me go," I begged, tears welling in my eyes. "I didn't do anything."

"I can't, kitten. Only King can let you leave," he answered, his voice laced with pity towards me.

Listening to this, I slid down against the wall. A small whimper erupted from my mouth as I thought about my possible fate. Hayden King won't spare a second thought before killing me.

That's not how my story was supposed to end.

I was not supposed to die yet.

I didn't spend years running from him, only to be killed by another evil man.

Oh God!
