Klaus' POV.
The defeated look. The broken promises. The unkept words. A weeping soul. And a crumbled heart. All of this should have been the reason for my contentment. My satisfaction should have came from this. At last I defeated her. She promised she'd never break. And now I saw it in her eyes. And all it took for her defeat was her modesty and the crowd to watch her go down. This should have made my heart jumpstart. This should have made me fucking happy. This should have made walking away a lot fucking easier than thought.
But all it did was make it harder. Glued to the ground, all I could do was watch. This is what Kayla went through. This is what she had to go through. Then why wasn't this doing the justice to me? Gary drops the flog and looks at Maya. The crowd is silent. This should have conjoined the lost pieces of my heart back together but all it was break it apart even more into tiny little fucking pieces. Daniel, Junebug, and Tyler steps down until they're next to Gary. No one's looking at me. Everyone's looking at the damage I caused. The damage that I can't undo. I blemished her. I wounded the beauty. Tyler leans down and grasps her wrist. My heart stops beating momentarily.
"Weak pulse. She's not breathing, man." I swallow, unable to grasp the knowledge.
"She needs to go to the hospital. She's going to die!" Junebug speaks.
"Fucking hell. What did I do? I killed the girl," Gary encounters. I put my foot forward but before I can land it, the door flies open and Matt, Kevin, and Jeffrey walk in with a petite girl following on the back and Susan and Aria follow. I recognize her. Her eyes find mine for a split second before she runs towards Maya. Susan and Aria stand next to Junebug, horror laced in their dewy eyes.
"What did you do?" She whispers, saddened. I ball my fists. "Is this what you do to the women you love?" She accuses. Daniel grasps her wrist but she pulls back abruptly.
"Caro—" Daniel starts, but her friend pulls back again.
"Almost three weeks ago she was telling me how much she loved this man. She told me she was the happiest, and luckiest woman in the world," she tells Daniel. He looks at me.
"What happened to her?" Aria whimpers.
"Did her daddy to this?" Susan speaks. My head snaps towards her. Why the fuck would her dad to this to her?
"Susan—" Caro starts but I shoot my hand up and silence her. I nod my head, encouraging her to go on.
"I heard some men say her daddy was looking for her. And that if she didn't do as he said...he would do this to her. He would kill her and her mom." Unable to grasp what Susan just said, I look down at Maya in complete shock. Caro chuckles darkly.
"You thought she was the culprit. All along Maya and her mother were the bad people. Right?"
"Caro—" Daniel starts again.
"You knew all along she was innocent! Then why didn't you open your damn mouth to him?! You could have prevented all this! She wouldn't be here like this if it were up to you! I was sealed shut with an oat not to tell but you weren't!" She yells, her voice echoing around the walls of the room. My eyes brim with unshed tears and molten lava bursts through my being. Directly looking at Daniel, I throw daggers with the sharpness of my eyes and Daniel looks down, defeated.
"What is she talking about?" I ask, remaining calm with all my being.
"She told me not to tell," he defends himself.
"Tell. Me. What. Daniel?"
"I'll tell you! To hell with the oath. She's my friend and I'm her witness. Read!" Caro pulls the book out of her bag and flashes it to me. Tyler immediately grabs it, walks over to me and hands me it with shaking hands. I grab it and watch him back away. I look down. No one fucking dares to look at me. Who knew? How many knew what I didn't? I flip the diary open and ready through the pages.
