I wish someone told me. He thought. Tyler Wilson walked along the sidewalk in his hometown in Carmel, New York. Tyler sighed and shook his head. He stopped walking and stood there taking in the scene. Around him the snow fell down sticking in his hair. Tyler shivered and pulled his coat closed around him. Tyler looked both ways and ran across the street. He got across and slipped and fell down. “What the hell” Tyler mumbled. He groaned and stood back up and rubbed his back. “Stupid snow… stupid ice” Tyler mumbled as he started walking again. A few minutes later he had to cross the street again. Tyler looked around and started to cross. He didn’t see the cab heading right towards him. Horns blasted, tires screeched, sirens blared in the background and Tyler fell to ground and blacked out.

Jenni O’Neal was on the fourth floor of the hospital pacing back and forth. “Relax Jen” Cameron Byrd, Tyler’s band mate and Jenni and Tyler’s friend said. “I’m sure he’s okay” Dan Geraghty, another band mate and friend added. “I can’t help but worry though!” Jenni cried. Chris Bourne, a third member and friend nodded. “I understand but it’ll be okay” Chris said. “Tyler is strong, he’ll get through it all” Elijah Brown, another friend grabbed Jenni’s hand. “It’s okay” He said. “We’re all here and we’ll all get through it together and we’ll all help Tyler get through things as well” Jenni smiled and sat down. “I just… I feel like it’s my fault” Jenni said quietly. “Jenni don’t say that!” Cameron cried. “It is in no way your fault!” “And how are you so sure?” Jenni asked. “How can you say it is?” Dan asked.

“Because it was my fault that he didn’t find out about… you know what until today” Jenni said. “It’s my fault! I’m the reason he got upset and wanted to take a walk and I’m the reason he got distracted and the reason he walked out in front of the cab and so I’m the reason he got hit” “Jenni that doesn’t even make sense!” Chris cried. “It’s no one’s fault but the cab drivers” Elijah said. “He should have been paying more attention” “And it’s not Tyler’s fault because I know him well enough to know that he wouldn’t cross the street in New York without making sure it was clear” Cameron said. “It’s not your fault, Jenni” Dan said. “So don’t blame yourself…” Chris said. Jenni sighed. “Whatever” She mumbled. A doctor walked out and the five of them stood up. “Are you guys the Wilson family?” The doctor asked. “No sir” Cameron said. “Tyler’s family is on the way… they’re getting here as quickly as they can. We’re Tyler’s friends” “Well, I’ll come back in a little bit after his family is here” The doctor said and then he walked away.

Everyone sat back down and didn’t say anything more. A few minutes later the elevator dinged and a group of five came running in. “Where’s my baby?!” Patty cried. Cameron stood up. “Mrs. Wilson, it’ll be alright. The doctor will be over here shortly to tell us what happened” Cameron said. “What happened to Tyler?” Carter asked. “Is he gonna be okay?” Parker added. “Is he alive?” Taylor asked. Everyone looked at her. “What? It’s just a question…” She said. “Yes Taylor… Tyler is alive and he’ll be just fine” Cameron said. He started to sit back down when the doctor walked back over. “I’m guessing you are the Wilsons…” He said. Patty nodded. “Well I have good news and I have bad news” The doctor said. Patty grabbed her husband’s hand and held it tightly. “The good news is that Tyler is and will be okay. He only has a few broken ribs and his left leg is broken as well” The doctor said. “The bad news is that he hit his head quite hard and hasn’t woken up yet”

“Can I go see him?” Jenni asked standing up. “Please…” The doctor nodded. “Just be careful” Jenni nodded and walked to Tyler’s room. She stopped outside the door and took a deep breath before walking inside. She started crying at the sight of him. Tyler was laying there so still and helpless… His eyes were closed and he seemed to be having trouble breathing. His face was bruised up some and his leg and elevated by a hard pillow. Jenni pulled the chair that was in the corner of the room up next to Tyler’s bed and she sat down. Jenni took Tyler’s hand and put her face in between his side and the bed and she cried. She cried and she held onto his hand. After about ten minutes she looked up and wiped her eyes. “I’m sorry Tyler…” She whispered. “This is all my fault… I’m so stupid” She squeezed his hand. “I’m sorry… I didn’t never meant to hurt you”

Jenni loosened the grip she had on his hand to where her hand was just lying in his palm. “I’m sorry Tyler… I love you…” Jenni whispered. She laid her head on his chest and she felt the grip on her hand get tighter. “Jenni… Is that you?” Tyler asked hoarsely. “Tyler!” Jenni cried. She started crying all over again. “Jenni, do you really believe it’s your fault?” Tyler asked. Jenni nodded. “It is… it was my fault you were distracted” She said. Tyler shook his head. “It’s my fault… I wasn’t paying attention. Don’t blame yourself…” Tyler said. The room was quiet for a bit while Tyler just laid there holding Jenni’s hand and trying to breathe. “You look like you’re in so much pain…” Jenni said. “I wish it was me instead…” “Don’t say that!” Tyler cried. “Don’t you ever say that… do you hear me?” Jenni looked at Tyler. “Jenni!” Tyler cried. “Do you hear me?” Jenni swallowed hard and nodded. “I won’t say it…” She said quietly.

“Good…” Tyler said. He sighed and then grasped his side in pain. Tyler shut his eyes tightly and squeezed Jenni’s hand even tighter. It hurt, but she didn’t say anything… She knew he was in much more pain than her hand was. Tyler released his grasp on her hand and she let go and stood up. Jenni put the chair back in the corner and turned back around. “Your mom wants to see you… so I’m gonna go and let her come in” Jenni turned to leave and Tyler reached out and grabbed her hand. “Come here” He told her. Jenni walked over to Tyler and stood next to him. “I have to tell you something, lean down here” Tyler said. Jenni leaned down to where she was just inches away from Tyler’s face. Tyler grabbed the back of her head and pulled it down and he kissed her. When they finally broke away Jenni blushed and tried to avoid eye contact. Tyler just smiled and whispered “I love you too”
