The door shuts behind him and almost in retaliation I scream and throw the glass of water at the wall causing it to shatter. Collapsing in a heap on the floor I cry. I cry until I think I can cry no more, but the tears are endless.

I feel dirty and disgusting for allowing myself to be treated in the way that I have by him, and the fact that I need his comfort because he is the only person to make me feel better, though he is the one who has constantly damaged me. My savior is my assailant, and I resent myself for accepting this.

"Please come home. You were right about everything"

I clumsily type out to my best friend, to which they reply instantly telling me they're on their way.

Oh fuck.

My eyes fall upon the shards of glass scattered across the kitchen floor and I carefully step over it as I find our dustpan and broom to sweep up the only physical reminder of my emotions. In the darkness I see my phone lighting up with a call and walking over to retrieve it, everything is suddenly in slow motion. My feet are whisked off the ground by the puddle of water and I am airborne. Coming down my head comes into contact with the corner of the bench and blackness.

"Ava," I hear my name muffled. "I see her eyelids fluttering. Can she hear us?" I hear Scarlett's panicked voice.

Who is she talking to?

Without even opening my eyes I can tell I am in a bright room. I open my eyes warily and it's evident that I'm in the hospital.

"What am I doing here?" I croak, sitting up quite suddenly.

"Ava!" Scarlett says, racing over to my side. "Lay down," she asks in an overly stressed, motherly way.

"What happened?"

"It looks like you've bumped your head," she tells me. "Quite hard. Hard enough to knock yourself out."

"This is all really silly. I should go home. I'm fine now."

This is just blown way out of proportion. Going to the hospital? For hitting my head? There are people who actually need to be here rather than me filling up a bed because I've bumped my head.

I sit up in my bed, and prepare to get out.

Scarlett looks over at the doctor hesitantly, hoping his medical advice says otherwise.

"Due to the severity of the situation, I strongly recommend that you allow us to do a CT Scan to check for any swelling to the brain or any potential bleeding. Bumps to the head need to be monitored quite closely and I also suggest that you stay overnight for close observation."

I look to Scarlett with her pleading eyes, and turn to the doctor,

"I'll get the scan, and then figure out what to do."

"I'll let you know when we can proceed with that, and call us if you need anything."

"Ava, Harry told me what happened... I am so sorry," she says quite sensitively.

"You were right, why are you the one who's sorry?"

"Because that is something I would never want to be right about," she says shaking her head with regret.
