Today was the day of Giuseppe's funeral and we were burying an empty casket.

I stood in front of the grave with a single black rose in my hand. We all had one. I wore a simple black dress and black heels.

I looked over at Giuseppe's ex-wife and their daughter Eva. I haven't spoken to her yet. I'm a bit afraid to. I don't want her to blame me or Vince for her father's death.

"It's okay, Tesoro." Vince whispered in my ear.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah."

After the funeral we all went back to our house for some dinner. Eva never said a word.

Afterwards, I found her sitting in our rose garden.

"Hello." I spoke softly.

"Hello."

"May I sit with you?"

She nodded. "Sure."

"I'm sorry about your father."

"Thank you. You're Juliet, right?"

"I am."

"He talked about you."

"He did?" I asked surprised.

"Yeah. He would tell me how nice you are and how you treated everyone equally. Said that he'd never met anyone like you on this earth. I believed him even though I'd never met you. I guess he was telling the truth since he died protecting you."

"He was a good friend."

"A great dad too."

"When him and my mom split I was eight. I knew that they'd never been truly happy. It was no secret in our house about who he worked for. My mom didn't like it. She thought his job was going to get us killed."

"He never told anyone besides Vince about you." I said. "He didn't want you two to have any ties with this life."

"Really?" She asked tearing up.

"Yeah. If I would've known what he was planning to do I wouldn't have allowed him to do it."

"But if he hadn't then you and Vince would be dead."

"Yes, but you'd have your father. We'd been fine. Vince and I would be together even if we died."

She grinned. "My dad always said that if you both died Vince would have to bribe his way into heaven to be with you."

I chuckled. "That's sounds about right."

Her grin then disappeared. "The man who killed him and almost killed you, where is he?"

"Vince has him."

"Where?"

I shook my head. "I can't say."

"Can you at least tell me that he's getting what he deserves?"

"He is getting what he deserves and so much more."

"Good."

We sat in silence for the next few minutes and just enjoyed the beautiful day.

"Your garden is so beautiful."

"Thank you." I smiled. "It was a Valentine's Day gift from Vince on our second anniversary. He knows how much I enjoy roses."

"That's adorable. Another thing my father talked about was Vince's love for you."

"Oh yeah?"

"Yep. Said he'd never seen a man so in love with a woman. Said that a lot of people doubted his sanity but never his love for you. He also said that some people called him stupid for being with you. Told him that having a woman would only make him weaker but he told them that you make him stronger.
My father told me that when I grow up I need to find a man who looks at me the way Vince looks at you. I didn't understand that until I saw you two at dinner. They way he looks at is like you're his next breath of air. Without you he'd suffocate."
