The Unknown is a Scary Place to Be Alone

"By the Angel, what were you both thinking? What in Raziel's name have you done to her?" Jace shouted as he slammed his bedroom door open to reveal that all of Clary's belongings had already mysteriously been removed. This had the workings of Magnus Bane all over it. Nervously stepping over the threshold Alec and Isabelle followed Jace in an attempt to explain their reasoning for allowing Clary to go through with what she had.

As soon as Izzy had introduced, or reintroduced, Clary to him and he'd seen her almost unruned body Jace had begun shouting the walls of the Institute down. Wrapped up in his rage Jace didn't even notice Clary's swift exit so she could unpack her belongings into the room that Magnus Bane had in fact tampered with in order to move them out of Jace's bedroom. However, Alec and Izzy had refused to leave their brother in his current state of meltdown.

"Jace we thought-"

"You thought what Iz? How are you even going to finish that sentence? Both of you thought that you'd be a part of taking everything familiar to me of her and get rid of it? For what possible purpose? To torture me even more than I have been?!" Jace cut her off before she could even begin to explain. Scanning the room Jace's anger only grew when he spotted the glistening diamond ring sat on the bedside table which used to belong to Clary herself. That's when the lamp to his right went flying across the room.

"Can you seriously tell us that this is a bad thing?" Alec began and just as Jace was about to interrupt he silenced him. "We're not denying that you don't love Clary, but can you honestly remember a time before her? I don't even need you to answer me that without knowing exactly what you'd say. You'd tell us that it's a lie but that's not true anymore, you've become consumed by one another Jace. Everything you do is because of each other. Before Clary existed all you thought about was the world that needed saving, now I don't even think you notice that it needs saving. She's not gone, she's not disappeared from the face of the planet but if you two don't learn to protect mundanes before each other then all of us are going to be consumed by the fact you only want to protect each other."

When explained calmly and rationally as if this were the most obvious fact in the world Jace's anger, although it still persisted, diminished ever so slightly. Sinking onto his mattress with his head in his hands Jace began to process what he had just witnessed and what he was to witness in the coming days, weeks and months. He loved Clary with all his heart in the same way he hoped Clary still loved him, however, what his siblings had explained was true. It seemed that the day Clary had run into Jace that everything which had gone before him no longer mattered, his world became consumed and it had been that way ever since. Through every mission, every injury and every near death experience Clary had been there. Even the most mundane things that Jace had experienced she had been standing right there next to him; every early morning coffee, every late night conversation and every afternoon off sat in the library.

"Does she remember any of it? Anything that's happened between us?" Jace whispered to the two Lightwood siblings stood in front of him. Izzy could quite obviously see that Jace's eyes were red, as if he were holding back tears, so slid onto the bed beside him and wrapped a comforting hand around his.

"She remembers everything, I promise you that. Clary didn't want to get rid of the memories which you had made with one another so Magnus locked the majority of them in a box in the back of her mind. It's exactly like when she began to get her Sight back, eventually all the memories will return but it might take some time or Magnus will unlock it when he thinks you're both ready. She knows that you two have an extremely strong connection to one another, she just has to figure it out for herself." Izzy explained rationally and calmly.

When Clary had first explained to Isabelle what her plan of action was, Izzy couldn't help but think that Clary had been possessed by some unruly demon. However, as the details followed and the reasons why became clearer there was no way that Izzy could argue against it. As perfect as she knew Jace and Clary were for each other they had become dangerous, their obsession with each other had put missions on edge and the two Lightwood's in danger on more than one occasion.

"Magnus did say though that you can't just tell her everything that happened between the two of you, that's not the point of this. This is so that you can retry. You can figure things out better than you ever did before. This isn't so you can live the same life as you did before her memories were taken, this is so you can learn from the mistakes you both made." Alec informed his parabatai in a calm tone, not wanting to alarm him.

"What does she remember then? If she can remember some memories, what memories were taken from her?" Jace asked hesitantly, not knowing whether he would receive the answer he wanted. After a moment of trepidation the Lightwood's began to explain in extreme detail what Clary could and couldn't remember.

She could remember all the events which had led them up to this point in their life. How she entered the Shadow world, finding out who her father was and the trick he played making both Jace and Clary believe they were related, the war which began with Valentine and continued even after his death through his son Jonathan Morgenstern, everything which Jonathan had done to not only Clary but everyone important in her life she could remember, his death would never be forgotten by the Morgenstern daughter - it was too important to her. There wasn't an important life event which Clary couldn't remember and which didn't include Jace, however, they weren't joint at the hip in her memories. They had kissed twice; once before they were told the lie of their relationship to one another and the second in the Seelie Court under direct address from the Queen herself. That was it though. There was no relationship, there was no profession of love, there was no engagement. There was just the relief of knowing that they weren't related and continuing to fight side by side as if nothing had ever changed.

This information made Jace feel like he was being ripped apart, however, he knew it was possibly for the best. Magnus Bane would not have done this task light heartedly without hoping that the outcome of Jace and Clary's relationship would very much be the same as it was before. Slowly Jace's state of panic began to subside and although he found it difficult he slipped the engagement ring which had belonged to Clary just days ago into his bedside drawer.

"Where do I even start with her?" Jace questioned in bewilderment, mainly to himself but he knew that he could use any advice from his siblings in this current situation,

"She's probably still unpacking, why don't you start there?" Izzy offered up whilst unlocking their strong grip on each other's hands. With an almost defeated sigh Jace pushed himself up off the bed and exited the room in search for his fiery red headed....friend?....girlfriend?....fiancé?

Burying her face in her hands Isabelle Lightwood began to ponder whether what she had allowed Magnus to carry out was the right decision or not. Had Clary finally taken her anger to far? Had Isabelle tried to be so supportive that she would allow Clary to do anything to make herself happy?

"We haven't got time for moping about, this doesn't just affect us Iz. You call Simon and I'll call her parents, the sooner everyone knows what Clary's done the better; we don't need any slip ups. If they've got a second chance at this, they best get it right." Alexander Lightwood exclaimed as he dragged his sister off the bed and out the  door so they could begin to make the necessary calls in attempts to iron out this possible mess of a situation.

I hope you enjoyed this chapter! It's taken me forever to write, I know, I know, but it's actually ended up being one of my favourites. I definitely think this situation could have some potential for some crazy chapters. What do you all think?

ALSO: please tell me you've all watched the final episodes of Shadowhunters now!!! Honestly, if all of you could have seen me watching the final episode I think a lot of you would've been worried about me. I couldn't stop crying. I know there's Ben controversy surrounding how good the show is, however, as a HUGE fan of the books to have a visual representation of the Shadow World come to an end again was truly heartbreaking for me. My only problem with the final episode is that I think the Jonathan issue was resolved ever so slightly prematurely but let me know your thoughts.

Xoxo Chloe
