Phil and Patricia Marshall were shocked from their sleep by the hammering on the front door and shouting outside their home.

"GEORGE?!"

"Patricia, you've got to help me!" She could see how frantic he was, "Kathy, please is she here? I woke up yesterday to find her gone! Tell me she's here and she's safe!"

Patricia remained calm. "George, Kathy's here. She arrived early yesterday."

He stepped forward to enter the house but found his way blocked. "Patricia?" He looked surprised. "Can I come in.... please? I really need to talk to Kathy."

"I don't think that's a good idea George. After recent events and all things considered, so please leave!" She made to close the door.

"Please wait!" She could see his total confusion. "What recent events?" To her horror the man began to cry. "Why do I get the feeling Kathy has left me forever? Why though? I don't understand?"

"George, please just leave. If, and I mean IF Kathy wants to speak to you, then we'll be in touch." With that, she closed the door, leaving him staring in dismay and still none the wiser as to the reason why the woman her adored had left him.

A few hours later, Kathy awoke and groaned. She was now sore, achey and stiff, so much so, every movement seemed to hurt.

"Mum!" she called, already in tears.

"Kathy?" Her mother rushed into the room. "What's wrong?"

"I hurt so much," she sobbed, "Oh mum, I hurt all over! Why?"

"I don't know love. Look, let me call the doctor. She can check you over."

"NO!"

"Why sweetheart?"

"Because she'll know immediately what's gone on! I don't want her to report it, do i?"

"You can't be forced to report what George did to you Kathy love, but you need checking. You might have something that needs treating."

"Are you suggesting George could have given me something?" Kathy looked alarmed.

"Goodness no! I meant that there might be something they can give to get rid of the pain and discomfort. Please love."

Kathy moved slowly and tried to sit up. She winced and gaved the occassional groan. Her mother watched on, concern etched on her face.

"Please Kathy. Let me call the doctor."

Looking at her mother, tears in her eyes, she nodded. "OK. But just make sure she understand that I won't be reporting what happened to the police!"

After her mother left her, Kathy stood up to  collect clean clothes from the wardrobe. Walking across the room,, she glanced out of the window, noticing the lovely sunny day. She debated whether to sit out in the sun. She walked to the window and looked out.

"Mum?" she called, walking out onto the landing, "Why is George's car in the drive?"

Her mother looked uneasy. "He turned up before. Banging on the door and shouting to speak to you. Kathy love, George says he doesn't know why you've left him."

"WHAT!"  Kathy stormed down stairs and out into the garden. Walking up to his car, she hammered on the glass. She saw George jump. "What the hell do you want?" she snarled.

George jumped out of the car. He ran round to where she was. Holding out his hands to here, "Kathy my darling! Please come back to me!" He stopped dead as her saw fear etched across her face and she stepped back from him. "Kathy?"
