Dick grinned, trying not to think of what falling meant. His destination was so close, and he was so curious.

The window had made more noise than he had hoped, but there was no sign of anyone stirring. He had succeeded in phase one.

Phase two was second nature to him, and he made a grand show of flipping to the balcony below. It was colder than he imagined it would be, and it distracted him from questioning the telescope set up outside.

He pushed through the doors, surprised they were unlocked. It was dark inside, but the moon lit a path towards the piano.

Dick closed the door, perturbed when the cold never left, and sat down on the stool. He placed his hands on the keys in the way he imagined Alfred did.

He tested the notes softly. He glanced at the sheet music, but he couldn't read it. He sat in a pool of off key notes, trying to replicate the song he heard every night.

The room was warmer now.
