"This is Tony Stark."

"Thank you, but I need no introductions." Tony nodded at Evelyn, and extended his hand to the old man at the door.

Evelyn gave him a side glare, and smiled at her parents' neighbour.

"Honey, some people aren't familiar with yo-" she started explaining only to get interrupted a second later.

"Son, could I have picture please?" Mister Walker asked enthusiastically, "my wife would be seething when she knows I took a picture with Iron Man."

"I'm sorry baby, what did you say? I couldn't hear you over how awesome I am." He shot Evelyn a wink, and smiled at the camera.

Groaning internally, Evelyn moved back and was about to sit next to a nervous and bruised Jace on the couch when Tony stopped her.

"No." He shook his head, angry at the fact that she had even invited him in.

Who the fuck does that?

Couldn't she have forgotten her stupid manners for the day?

The old man had left them after dropping off some cupcakes for her parents, and the room fell silent once more.

Tony was harshly gripping Evelyn's wrist, restraining her from going over to that pathetic excuse of a man.

"Eve...E-Eve..." Jace rubbed his face aggressively, his red eyes not doing anything to hide the exhaustion on his features.

"Just say what the fuck you want to say to her, and get the fuck out." Tony hissed, still gripping Evelyn's wrist, not intending on letting go.

"I'm...I'm so sorry, I'm-" Jace stood up quickly, and Evelyn immediately tensed.

"I didn't...I'm fucking disgusted with myself. I'm sorry. I was so drunk, and I....God, I'm so sorry. I'm leaving tomorrow. Back to Chicago. You won't ever have to hear from me again, I swear to you. I swear to the both of you. I'm leaving and I'm not coming back. I'm so sorry, Evelyn."

Quickly, he rushed out of the house not even giving her the chance to speak.

She wasn't sure if Evelyn had the power to give him her absolution.

She couldn't find it in herself, but she knew that in time, she would forgive him.

Because that's just how she was.

She had the tendency to forgive people for unforgivable things, and maybe that, in itself, was wrong.

Her shoulders slumped, and her throat tightened.

She didn't want him to leave, but she didn't want to do anything to stop him either.

She didn't hate him, and she hated herself for it.

She couldn't hate anyone even if she tried.

She tried to hate Jane, but she couldn't.
