Chapter 19

I sat in the car with my heart beating like a drum. Fuck, fuck, fuck! I'm going to jail, I'm going to be such a disappointment to my mother and I won't have a future anymore. Shit, what the hell was I thinking? My eyes were darting back and forth from my rear-view mirror and in front of me. Part at me thought about speeding away down the road and hoping I could lose them, the other part at me was scared shitless, that part won. I sat there thinking of an excuse, anything. Clearly, they had been watching me all night, they were probably taking pictures of me dealing to people too so now they had good hard evidence.

I felt like I had been sitting in the car forever, waiting for the cop to step out of the vehicle. I heard the loud creak of the car door open and then slam shut behind them. I rolled my window down, ready to try and talk my way out of this. I could see in my mirror now that it was a guy. He took slow steps until he was situated by my window, he leaned down so he could see me and looked me in the eyes.

"License please" He asked annoyed. I turned and fumbled to grab my wallet, my hands shaking in fear. I pulled out my I.D and handed it to him, he snatched it out of my hands and looked at it. "Step out of the vehicle please" He demanded.

I opened the car door and I could already feel my face turning red in embarrassment. I can't believe I had been stupid enough to do this. Vic was right, I shouldn't have done this. I've been in the business one day and I've already been caught by the police. I stood beside my car while he kept examining my license, looking back and forth between me and the small picture of me.

"I got an anonymous call saying someone had seen a man with dark hair dealing drugs on their street." He handed my license back to me and I grabbed it awkwardly, I kept eye contact because I didn't want him to think I was guilty. "Would you happen to know about this?" He asked me.

"r-really?" I stuttered out, I took in a deep breath to try and regain myself. "Of course not, officer, I was just up here visiting my friend" I told him with a straight face.

"Then I'm sure you won't mind if I check your vehicle" he stepped forward to look in my car. I knew I had my rights and technically he had no warrant to search my car, however me asking him for a warrant would just look more suspicious and would seem like I have something to hide. Which thankfully, I don't.

"Go right ahead" I opened the car door for him with a smug smile on my face. He wasn't going to find anything in there, I was positive of that, and the fact he had to search my car meant he didn't have any other kind of evidence and he was now reaching to try and find some. I let out a slow breath, trying to slow my heart rate down finally. I watched his every move as he shined his flashlight in between the seats of my car, he moved my front seats around and looked underneath them. My duffel bag was shoved under the seat and he aggressively fumbled to unzip it, he let out a frustrated sigh when he discovered it was empty. I silently thanked myself for being smart enough to hide all the money in my textbook, which he skipped right over when he saw it lying in the open on the back seat.

"Alright" He said as he straightened himself up. He stood before me and I stared up at him, he was really tall. Quite intimidating too, I might add, the way he towered over me with his dark eyes. "You can leave" he finally said. I wasn't going to object, so I promptly got back into my car and drove away, finally feeling myself calm down completely. I ended up driving quickly, out of fear of being caught again. I turned down on my street and instantly went up to Vic's house. I went to open the door but it was locked, so instead I started pounding on the door. The door swung open and Vic stood there in front of me.

"Hey babe" He leaned forward and kissed me, "You're back already, great" He ushered me inside and I found myself instantly feeling better now that I was with Vic.
