Jang-Mi pushes open the doors of the school, eager to get home. She barely even wanted to wait for her brothers, that's how desperate she was.
It'd been an extremely tiring and annoying day, which was even more irritating as it was Friday. Fridays were meant to be amazing.
"Jangie! Why aren't you waiting?!"
She turned to look over her shoulder, seeking the familiar face. Finally, she saw her brother running up to her.
"I'm tired, Jungkook. I just want to go home."
Her twin blinked in surprise at her tone, and the way she crossed her arms. The youngest of their siblings was always cheerful and smiling. Of course, she had her moments, but she never spoke to Jungkook like that.
"What's wrong?"
"I don't want to talk about it. Where are the others?"
At that moment, another set of twins in their family came out the building, pushing each other as they went. Both Taehyung and Jimin stopped when they saw Jang-Mi's sour expression.
"What crawled up your ass and died?"
Jungkook winced at Jimin's bad choice of words, making a cut of signal from behind his sister. Her eyes narrowed and she huffed.
"Can we just get the others? Seriously."
The boys glanced at each other, then all of them left the high school, walking the short five minute walk it took to get to the university.
Namjoon, Hoseok, and Yoongi were all waiting for the youngers to appear, and Yoongi raised at eyebrow at Jang-Mi. He didn't say anything, especially when Jungkook shook his head.
The oldest pair of twins, Namjoon and Hoseok, shared a look with each other before leading the band of siblings to the metro.
"What's up?" Yoongi finally asked Jungkook, gesturing to their sister. She was walking slightly to the side of the rest of them, her arms crossed and head down.
"I don't know yet. She won't tell me."
Yoongi's face displayed his surprise. "I didn't expect that. You tell each other everything."
Jungkook sighed and nodded. "Maybe she just needs her oldest brother."
All the siblings had been finding it weird without their oldest, Jin. He'd started working in order to help support them, turning his part-time to a full-time. They'd been so used to him protecting them and taking care of them, checking in on each one after school was finished.
The three in university had tried to do that for the younger ones, but it wasn't the same. So maybe all Jang-Mi really needed was her big brother.
They got on the metro, and Taehyung took the liberty to find Jang-Mi a seat. She thanked him quietly as all the boys stood around her.
Not long later, they arrived at their stop, and made the short walk to their small house. When Namjoon opened the door and yelled out, all seven were met with silence.
"Ah," Namjoon realised, dropping his shoulders. "He's not off yet."
Jang-Mi rolled her eyes and pushed past them, kicking off her shoes and dumping her bag. She ran up to the bathroom upstairs, closing herself in. She couldn't put herself in her room as Jungkook shared it with her.
Hoseok followed behind, knocking on the door lightly. He waited a moment for an answer, leaving with a sigh when he got none.
"Did she say anything?" Jungkook asked from the door of his room when Hoseok passed by.
"No. I don't have a clue." The older brother answered, trudging off to the room he shared with Namjoon.
After a few hours, Jin arrived home to his six brothers doing homework at the table. They smiled and greeted him, until Yoongi filled him in.
"Can you check on Jangie?" He questioned, pointing a pale hand up the stairs. "She's locked herself in the bathroom and refused to talk to us."
Seokjin wasted no time dropping his bag and coat, jogging up to the door. When he knocked, he clarified who it was.
"Princess? It's Jin, I'm home."
They was a sniffle and the sound of someone shifting. "It's open. It's always been open."
Jin made his way inside, closing the door behind him. He saw Jang-Mi sat on the floor, a few tissues in her lap and her makeup ruined.
He soundlessly sat across from her, leaning against the cabinet. "You want to talk?"
"I don't understand Oppa." She whimpered suddenly, silencing him. "They always pick on me, always have something to say."
She put on a different tone, obviously quoting someone. "Huh, 'your mother was a whore to have so many children', 'you're not even as pretty as your brothers', 'at least they'll be successful'. I don't understand Oppa. What did I ever do to them?"
Jin sits in shocked silence. He'd never been aware that his baby was being bullied this way, or at all. He doubted any of his brothers knew either.
"Jangie... why didn't you tell?" His voice was barely above a whisper.
"Because I didn't think it would matter. At first, it was a few little comments, and I never let them bother me. Then I got interested in some boy, and all of a sudden they completely hated me." She tugged on the bow around her collar, undoing it. Her eyes were dull as she unleashed her thoughts.
Jin blinked, processing the information. He reached over and gently pulled her into his lap, cradling her like she was a baby again. He used to hold Jungkook on one side, Jang-Mi on the other. It comforted them when they were crying and their mother was too busy working.
"Jangie, you're our baby sister. We'll always come to your aid. Please never leave us in the dark for so long. We love you too much to let you drown like that."
She cuddled her brother, allowing her body to relax.
"I'm sorry, Oppa."
Obviously, Shin isn't her brother/doesn't exist in this AU.
