Hockey is damaging his spine. The words echoed through my head like a voice in a cave. “How the hell could this happen?” I mumbled. “How could what happen?” Kendall asked wrapping his arms around me. “Nothing, don’t worry about it” I told him. I didn’t want him to worry. “Well, I’m gonna go play hockey with the guys” Kendall said. He started walking to the door to get his skates. “No!” I cried. “You can’t!” “Why not?” Kendall asked. “Y-y-you just can’t” I stammered. “That’s not a reason” Kendall said. He crossed his arms across his chest. He picked up his skates and hung them across his shoulder and then he picked up his hockey stick. Kendall opened the door and looked at me. “Kendall” I said. “What do you want, Rachel?” He asked a bit annoyed. “Don’t go… please… just trust me”

“Why don’t you want me to go?” He asked. “I-I-I just don’t want you to” Kendall shook his head and slammed the door shut. “Idiot” I mumbled. “Why won’t he just trust me?” I sighed and sat down on the couch. I picked up my phone and saw I had one missed call from Kendall’s doctor. I called him back to see what was wrong. He told me that if Kendall played hockey again, and got hit, or fell, his spine would become damaged even more and he’d no longer be able to play hockey because he would be paralyzed; which also means, he wouldn’t be able to perform onstage anymore. I swallowed hard and called Carlos. “Carlos!” I cried. “Don’t let Kendall play hockey! If he gets hit, he’ll become paralyzed! Hockey has been damaging his spine, I’m really worried… he wouldn’t listen to me! Please!”

“Alright, Rachel, calm down. It’ll be okay, I’ll tell him” Carlos said. “No!” I screamed. “Don’t tell him what’s going on. Just cancel or something… let me tell him” “Alright, whatever” Carlos said. He hung up and I sat there waiting to find out what would happen. About ten minutes later Kendall came storming in the apartment. “What the hell, Rachel?!” Kendall yelled. “What?” I asked. “You told Carlos to tell me to go home? Seriously?” “Kendall, I have a good reason!” I cried. “I don’t believe you” Kendall said. I stood there staring into his green eyes which at the moment held enough fury to start a fire. “Kendall, sit down” I said. Kendall shook his head and started to walk away but I grabbed his wrist. “Sit the fuck down, now” I said. Kendall gave me a look and then reluctantly sat down.

“I’m sitting, now what’s wrong?” Kendall asked. “Hockey is damaging your spine” I said. Kendall laughed. “Seriously Rachel” “I’m not joking” I said. “When you went to the doctor yesterday, he told me that… then he called today and said that if you got hit one more time or if you fell, you wouldn’t be able to ever play again because you would be paralyzed. And that’s why I called Carlos… you wouldn’t listen to me. You wouldn’t trust me when I asked, or rather told you not to go play” Kendall blinked. “Why didn’t you just tell me?” He asked. “I didn’t want to scare you… I figured me being scared was enough” I said. Kendall leaned over and kissed me. “I love you” he said. “And I love you for worrying about me” I smiled. “I love you too” I said. “What are we going to do though?” Kendall asked. “The doctor said only time can heal you… So you have to watch what you do for a while” I told him. Kendall smiled. “At least I get to spend this time with you” he said. I grinned and gave him a kiss. ‘Maybe this isn’t too bad after all’ I thought.
