A Month Later...

Y/N’s POV

The last day of school and the last day of my junior year in high school. My Irene, has this school year been a roller coaster. I think about all the crazy things that have happened this year as I pack up my things. Though I would like to, all students are obligated to go home to their family or their legal guardians for the summer. Even though I literally live here and had nowhere else to go, I still have to leave. Thankfully, I’ve made plans to stay with Nicole’s family for the summer. This is the first time in a long time that I’m actually looking forward to the summer. The best part?

I don’t have to deal with a bitch named after the type of plant that she probably gets high off of.

I slam the cover of my suitcase by throwing my body on top of it. Not surprisingly, it barely flattens the clothes under my weight. I look to Nicole, who’s also having a hard time with closing her suitcase, with pleading eyes.

“Nicooolllee!” I whine. Oh my Irene, could I sound anymore pathetic? She turns her head to look at me.

“What?” She looked frustrated from trying to unsuccessfully close her suitcase.

“I need help with my suitcase.”

“If I help you with your suitcase, you have to help me with mine. Deal?”

“Fine.” I said as she walked over and sat on my suitcase. Putting as much weight as she could on it, I quickly zipped it up before it could spring back to life or something.
“Thanks,” I say as she gets up. We look at her suitcase. “Now let’s tame this monster.”

“Yes. Let’s.” She motions me over with a joking curtsy. I smile as I saunter to it. She throws her body onto the top of the suitcase and I quickly zipper it up. As she gets up, her phone goes off.

“My mom is here.” Nicole announces as I pull my suitcase off my bed. She texts her mom back and then lugs her suitcase off her bed.

“You have the ID cards, right?” I ask.

“Yep. Let’s go.” She says. We head out of the dorm room, close the door and lock it. We go into the elevator and start to talk about where I’m staying in the house for summer.

“So,” She starts to say. “We have a guest room, but it’s actually being renovated into a nursery. So you’re gonna be bunking with me! Isn’t that awesome?!” She exclaims.

“Wait… nursery? I didn’t know your mom was pregnant!” I say excitedly. “When is she due?”

“Next month! I’m going to be a big sister in a few weeks and you’re going to be one of first people to meet the new baby!”

“That’s so cool! Oh my Irene, I can’t wait!”

“I know! Neither can I!” Nicole says as the elevator comes to a slow stop and the doors open. We walk out together. I head out the front doors as she places our ID cards in our compartment and punches in the pin numbers to lock it. She grabs the handle of her suitcase and runs over to me.

She looks around before we hear a woman call her name.
“Nicole! Over here!” We rush to the car and load up our stuff in the trunk. Nicole sits in the front seat and I sit in the back. I look at her mom once I’m buckled in. Nicole wasn’t kidding when she said her mom was due next month, but she looked like she should’ve given birth months ago. I’m snapped out of my train of thought when she started to try and make small talk with me.

“Your Y/N, I’m guessing, right? My name is Camila. Nicole’s told me a lot about you. You and her both seem to really connect with each other. If you have any problems or concerns about your boundaries of what you feel comfortable with, just let me know. Also, when we get to the house, my husband and I have a surprise for you girls!” She seemed like she could hardly contain her excitement on the rest of the ride to the house. I glanced at Nicole. She had her headphones on, so she probably didn’t hear anything. I looked at the GPS on the car’s touchscreen and saw we had around an hour before we reached our destination, I decided to put in my headphones as well. It was good timing too, because the moment I turned on my music, Camilla turned on the radio, rolled down her window and BLASTED the music out the window. The woman sang her heart out, but was ridiculously off key. I just sank lower in my seat to avoid being seen and Nicole did the same thing.

(Time Skip to Nicole’s house)

“We’re here!” Camila announced as she pulled up into the driveway. “Nicole, can you help me out of the car?” Nicole looked at her mom with confusion as she took off her headphones.

“What?”Nicole said, stupidly. Camila rubbed the temples of her forehead with frustration

“When does school start again?”

“Don’t say the s-word, mom! The baby can probably hear you!” She said with a fake shocked tone.

“Forgive me, when do you go back to O'Khasis Prep?” She said mockingly.
“Shut it…” She grumbled and sank into her seat. After her 10-second pout, she opened the door and got out of the car to help her mom. I got out to help her once I noticed she was having trouble. “How- HUFF- big is this baby?!”

“Pretty big! It’s almost the same when I was pregnant with you!” She exclaimed as she pushed herself up and out of the car.

“Almost? What do you mean?” She asked.

“Well, every pregnancy is different. You can have two very similar pregnancies, but never exactly the same. Anyways you two go get your stuff and bring it inside. Y/N, Nicole will show you where her room is. But don’t go upstairs until we tell you the surprise!” She said, practically squealing with glee as she knocked on the door.

Her husband opened the door to let them in. He gave her a quick peck on the lips in greeting. Then he looked around in confusion.
“Where’s my little Red Head?”

“I’m right here, dad!” She said as she gave him a big hug.
“There she is! How was school this year? Where’s the friend you were supposed to be having here over the summer?”

“She’s right there! Haven’t you gotten glasses yet?” She said as she pointed to me. I blushed in embarrassment. I wasn’t used to all this attention, even after the events of prom. After that nightmare, I’ve made a vow to myself to never attend another school dance again or at least try not too.

“Um… hi… I’m Y/N, Nicole’s friend. Thanks… for letting me stay at your house for the summer. It really means a lot to me, honestly.”

“We’re more than happy to welcome you to stay as long as you like! But John;” She made motion towards her husband; “And I have a surprise for the both of you as a special end of the school year gift!” She handed a small, yellow gift bag to Nicole. It had a few sheets of blue and pink tissue paper inside. When she had gone through all the tissue paper, she picked up a note that read; ‘To the best big sister anyone could ever ask for! A gift from Mom and Dad to you!’
Camila and John could hardly contain their excitement.

Nicole picked up a picture and as she looked at it, the already ginormous smile on her face grew even bigger. I dropped my mouth open in shock and looked at Nicole while she continued to down at the picture in amazement.

“Oh my Irene… you’re kidding…”
