That night Yoongi went to his room early since he had been up since 5AM. When he got up from his desk after writing about his day in the notebook he got from Jimin, he noticed a little piece of paper laying on the floor by the door.
It was folded about four times, which made Yoongi even more curious as to what the note could be about. He hurrily unfolded it and saw only four words were written on it. The handwriting was horrible, so he had to reread a couple times to decipher what it said.
Thank you for today.
Four words. Four words that might seem so meaningless to most people, but Yoongi knew how much they meant to Ji-Ho. He put the note in his notebook and fell asleep with a smile on his face.
The next morning it was awfully quiet during breakfast. Minsu had went on a trip with a friend for a couple of days, Ji-Ho had to visit his therapist and Monet was still asleep. Yannie was already busy with who knows what, she always seemed to busy doing something.
So it seemed Yoongi had some time for him alone. He quickly finished his breakfast, feeling very lonely sitting there alone on the huge dining table. It was weird finally having some free time. Ever since he had gotten here he had been busy with the upcoming trial, going to therapy and spending time with his new friends.
So now he was aimlessly walking around the house thinking of what to do. When he walked into the living room his eye fell on the piano standing in corner. He hesitated for a minute.
Memories of him and his father sitting side by side on the piano stool on sunday morning flooded back into his mind. The morning sun shining through the big window in their living room. The smell of breakfast coming from the kitchen, where his mother was cooking one of her famous breakfasts.
Yoongi remembered frustratingly smashing his hands on the piano, creating a cacophony of sounds which seemed like an elephant had sat down on the keys. "It's okay, try again. No one has ever gotten it right the first time." He remembered his fathers assuring smile like it happened just yesterday. And he did, he tried again and failed again, so many times he couldn't even count that high back then. He tried and tried, until he finally succeeded.
Without him even intending to, he had walked over to the piano. He ran his fingers across the tiles and sat down on the piano stool. He took a deep breath before playing one of the songs he and his dad had written. It was the last one they composed before he had died.
When he finished the song, he thought back to his conversation with Monet. Would writing songs really help him in finding peace about his father's death? It seemed so unlikely he ever would. Music had always been their thing, it wasn't the same without him here.
Yoongi turned around on his stool and saw a couple of blank papers laying on the coffee table, most likely Monet's. After staring at them for a while he stood up and returned back to his stool with the papers and a pencil he found.
He stared at the papers, like somehow they would tell him he could do it. "The first time is the hardest, trust me I've been there." Yoongi startled at the sound of Monet's voice breaking the complete silence of the room. He had been so lost in his own thoughts that he hadn't even heard her entering the room.
"It's different. I have never written a song without my dad, you must have done a thousand drawings without your mom's help," Yoongi replied.
"You're right, but that didn't make it any less painful. For me my mom was art, so when she died art died with her. Or at least that's what I thought. Yoongi, don't you think your dad would want you to keep making music?" Monet answered, while she grabbed a chair and sat down next to him.
"Come on," she continued, gently bumping her shoulder against his. "I'll sit here with you. I don't know much about writing a song, but I have ears. So I'll tell you when it's shit," she laughed. "No but for real, I'll help you. I think I can tell when it's a good song and when it's not."
"Thanks Monet." He didn't know what else to say. She somehow always knew the right thing to say, it was amazing and annoying at the same time. He rested his hands on the tiles and tried to think of a melody.
Instead his thoughts wandered to Jimin. It was like he was standing in Jimin's room, looking at him sitting in the windowsill lost in his book. He couldn't see the expression on his face from where he was standing but he could imagine what it must look like.
He always looked serious when he was reading. His eyes slightly squinted and a little line would appear between his eyebrows. Yoongi had asked him once if he didn't like the book, which seemed to surprise Jimin.
"I love it, what make you think I didn't?" Jimin had asked him and Yoongi had explained how serious he had looked just now. "Do I really look that serious?" Jimin replied. Yoongi had nodded and promised to secretly take a picture of him when he looked like that again. But had never succeeded because Jimin always noticed before he could take the picture. He bursted out laughing every time, hiding his face in his hands.
Yoongi smiled thinking of all the pictures of Jimin he had on his phone because of it. "Write a song about whatever made you smile just now," Monet's voice shook him out of his thoughts. And without even thinking about it he started playing.
In just thirty minutes he had finished the whole song. When he wrote down the last notes on the paper his hand lingered in the air. He searched for the first page and wrote down the title on the top.
Park Jimin
He turned to Monet, she had a smile on her face reaching from ear to ear. "I knew you could do it. Yoongi that song is beautiful." Yoongi felt his cheeks heat up. He had never been good at receiving compliments.
"Monet, I-I can't thank you enough. I don't think I could have done it without you," Yoongi stammered, overtaken by emotions. "Bullshit!" Monet's cursing startled Yoongi. "That was all you, I didn't do anything. I was only here to give you that last push," she explained.
"Maybe, but you have helped me so much since I have been here. I wouldn't even have thought about writing songs again without you. You are the best friend anyone could wish for."
Yoongi suddenly felt to urge to hug Monet. For a moment Monet seemed shocked, but she eventually gave in to the hug and wrapped her arms around his waist and put her head on his shoulder.
They had never touched like this before but it felt so natural. Yoongi could smell the flowery scent of Monet's shampoo and felt the warmth of her body against this.
"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!" Their moment was interupted by a voice Yoongi would recognise anywhere. He immediately let go of Monet and turned around to see Jimin.
