CHAPTER TWENTY
•Thursday November 18th•
I walked into the Swords and Serpents headquarters - an old classroom - and saw all of the teenage serpents standing in lines in front of the door. They were all facing me. Jughead, Toni, Fangs, and Sweet Pea were all standing at the front of the group.
"Whatcha guys doing?" I asked feeling uncomfortable that everyone was just staring at me awkwardly
Sweet Pea stepped up from the group. "Even though she left the serpents, your mom was one, which makes you a serpent by blood. You were always an honorary serpent to us"
Toni then stepped forward and continued. "We all wanted to make your honorary title more official"
Sweet Pea took a leather jacket out from behind him. "You're an honorary serpent by blood. No one can ever take that title away from you"
I walked up and took the jacket from him. I smiled at their gesture. "I love you guys" I said as Toni, Sweet Pea, Jughead, and Fangs all came in for a group hug. I nudged for the rest of the serpents to join in
Once we were done with the mushiness Jughead brought us all back to reality. "Alright, now we have some real business to attend to" he said unrolling a large map of Riverdale. "What do Sunnyside Trailer Park, Twilight Drive-In, and Southside High all have in common?"
Nobody responded to Jughead. "They're all closed or on the verge of closing" I said
"They all were or are townland. Mayor McCoy was the only one who controlled them. Now this is a long shot, but I can feel the invisible hand of Hiram Lodge all over this"
"I don't get it" Fangs said
"I think mayor McCoy might be selling the land to Hiram Lodge. He's trying to buy up all the land on the southside"
"So what do we do, Jones?" Sweet Pea asked
"We put out the fire that Hiram Lodge had ignited"
As we were all discussing Hiram Lodge someone knocked on the classroom door. It was none other than Veronica Lodge. She clicked her heels as she walked in the classroom. She did not take in the map that we had out. She ended up just standing by the door. Everyone looked at her with confusion. "Jughead, can I talk to you for a second?" she asked
Jughead nodded and said, "anything you need to say you can say in front of the serpents"
"I want you and your dad to talk face to face with my dad. I want our families to come to some sort of agreement or at least a negotiation"
Jughead thought about her offer for a minute. "Okay. On one condition. You and your dad come to Sunnyside Trailer Park. So that he can see all of the people that he's trying to force out of their homes"
