Zoey's POV

My eyes widen as my mouth drops. Am I really that oblivious?

I have always been an unobservant person since young. When I was 6, believe it or not, I actually didn't even notice when one of my boy friends left a small, shy kiss on my cheek while we were playing. It was only until the next day when I went to school to see all my friends cooing and some of the boys screaming at the gardeners in laughter, "Zoe-way has cooties!", then I realise that something happened.

I dig out my phone from the bottom of my backpack and dial in Chris' number. He picks up on the third ring.

"Hey Chris, I -"

"Martinez. Just leave your message. I'll deal with it later."

What?

Then, I realise the call was redirected to his voicemail. My bottom lip sticks out as I sigh.

I try calling him for another 5 or so times, but is greeted with the stoic voice of his over the voicemail.

Did something happen to him?

-

I reach home with a heavy heart. The back of my head is throbbing and I have an unsettling feeling in my stomach. It feels as if I have something important to tend to, but I just can't decipher what is it. Deep breaths are not helping either. It isn't just my internals, I can feel my body growing weaker and weaker with each step I take. My mind is in a mess, it's not like I had just finished a marathon or something, but I feel tired, lethargic even.

As I dump all my belongings onto the couch, I can't help it but sneak a glance through the window.

Chris' bike and car are both sitting quietly on the driveway. A frown makes an appearance on my face, he's at home? And he's not picking up my calls?

I scowl mentally. The muscles on my face unwilling to budge. I am that tired, spiritually and physically.

Before I can make my way to my bedroom, the sound of Smells like teen spirit resonates through the whole house.

This can only mean that one of the boys are calling.

Jacob may be calling to give me another mind-boggling math question to solve, or so he calls it "high order thinking question". Levi may be calling to talk about Evelyn. Chris may be calling... and maybe, I will get the chance to apologise to him.

I pick up the call hastily.

"Hello?"

"Zoey, I need your help."

Seth?

-

As I struggle to put on my shoes and jacket at the same time, I clamber into the backseat of Seth's Audi.

"What do you want?" I huff grumpily. All he did was to demand me to get my ass out of the house, even when I made it a point to him clearly that I wanted to sleep.

Seth smiles a smile that doesn't reach his eye, "Sorry, something happened. I wasn't in the mood."

"Are you in that kind of mood right now?"

He chuckles lightly, "Not anymore."

"I'm glad, now tell me what do you want."

"Do you want to why is Chris not in school today?"

Curiosity that had been pushed to the back of my mind piques. My eyes widen at Seth's words. Of course I want to know! ... it's not considered as invading his privacy, if someone offers you the information, right?
