I sat in the front of the car, one hand on the wheel, my fingers tapping against the smooth material of the steering wheel. Both Peggy and Steve sat in the back, neither talking to each other. We drove through downtown Brooklyn, Steve undergoing the transition today. Both Peggy and I were his escorts, before just sitting back and observing the experiment.

"I know this neighbourhood, I got beat up in that alley" he said pointing out the window, clearly trying to make conversation. "And that parking lot, and behind that diner" he continued as we drove down busy streets.

"You got something against running away?" I said looking at him through the rear view mirror. "You start running, they'll never let you stop. You stand up, push back. Can't say no forever, right?" He said proudly, still daydreaming out the window.

"I know a little of what that's like. To have every door shut in your face" Peggy said looking at him apologetically. "I guess I just don't why you'd wanna join the army if you're a beautiful dame. Or a beautiful... a woman. An agent, not a dame! You are beautiful, but..." Steve babbled on.

"Hey Steve, just stop talking" I said, feeling embarrassed for him as he spoke to Peggy. "You have no idea how to talk to a woman, do you?" She said scoffing slightly, in an unhostile way. "This is the longest conversation I've had with one. Women aren't exactly lining up to dance with a guy they might step on" he said, I smiled slightly, mentally laughing at him.

"You must have danced?" Peggy asked, slightly shocked. "Well, asking a woman to dance always seems so terrifying. And the past few years just didn't seem to matter that much. Figured I'd wait" he told her as I pulled into the street which the facility laid on.

"For what?" She asked him curiously. "The right partner" he replied looking at her, the moment lingering for a little too long.

I cleared my throat as I pulled into the front of an antique shop. Both of them snapped out of the haze they were in, looking at me. "Sorry to break up whatever this is, but we should go" I said as I undid my seatbelt then stepping out of the car.

"What are we doing here?" He asked us both as he looked up at the store front. "Just follow us" I said taking the lead and walking ahead of the pair. I walked into the shop, the little bell ringing as I opened the door, a small old lady rising from her chair behind a desk. "Wonderful weather this morning isn't it?" She asked me sweetly. "Yes but I always carry an umbrella" I said politely, a small smile on my face.

She smiled at me, leading the three of us to a room in the back. A large bookcase covering the back wall. She pushed a hidden button, causing the bookcase to slid apart, a door hidden behind them. Steve scoffed from behind me, Peggy opening the door for both of us. She lead us into the main circular room, a hoard of mean standing in an observation bulb, Dr Erskine, Howard and many SSR scientists working away down below.
