Chapter 12

Thanks to my heroics that saved Tatsu and maybe getting some sympathy for telling everyone my secret, I got a few days off.

Which I would take, except when I'm away from Night Raid, it means that I'm in the capital with the Jaegers.

"Y/N!" Instead of the Auburn haired girl being excited to see me, it was Kurome.

"Hello little miss." I waved as she got angry at her new nickname.

"Welcome back Y/N." Wave joined us around the table. "Sorry to ask, but where do you always disappear off too?"

"Mostly home to my parents, and sometimes I help a few friends that I've met out and I stay with them." I fidgited with the hilt of my sword.

Kurome stared at me and her eyes flicked to the sword at my waist.

"Where did you get that from?" She eventually asked.

I shrugged my shoulders. "It appeared at the bottom of my bed with a note. 'Don't lose it this time'. I think my parents noticed that I had lost my other one." I feigned ignorance, I wanted to push the idea that I had a protector. It would hopefully stop them from following me.

"So that's how you got my sword?" Kurome asked whilst eating some lunch next to me.

I just nodded in reply as another question was sprung on me.

"Do you know what it says?"

I turned back to Wave to answer, "நல்ல லக் வெல்டர்."

Esdeath happened to walk in at that exact moment to translate. "Good Luck Wielder."

I nodded again, I'm not surprised that Esdeath knows that, she's a woman of many talents. Even if she is the most feared person in the entire capital.

"So you have the Gremio Sword." She put a hand on her chin and observed me. "How interesting."

"The Gremio Sword?" Wave asked for the three of us.

"The Gremio Sword might seem boring and a natural sword but it's actually surprisingly powerful." She walked over and sat at the table. "Where did you get it?"

"If I answer will you tell me what's so special about it." I bargained and I got a nervous stare from Wave.

Apparently going head to head with Esdeath wasn't a normal thing.

"Fine, but you first." She answered in her usual demeanour.

"It was a gift from my parents." I said simply, that was the story I was going with. "I woke up and this was at the bottom of my bed."

She looked at me obviously not believing me, but she still thought I had a protector maybe she'd believe that.

She sighed knowing that wasn't the answer she wanted, yet she held up her end.

"The Gremio Sword was handed to the best knight in a King's army. The person wielding this sword gains inhuman physical abilities. It's rumoured to have never lost a fight."

I stared at the sword, so it wasn't the sword that would win the fight, it was the Wielder, that makes sense.

"Thank you General." I smiled at the blue haired killer. "But it you wouldn't mind, can we spar. I want to test this swords capabilities."

Again, everyone was completely at a loss for words.

They got even more surprised when Esdeath stood up. "Of course, meet me in the courtyard."

And simply walked off.

You smiled to yourself and stood up. "You are welcome to come and watch, oh and grab Seryu too if she's here."

I walked off leaving there mouth agape, Kurome ran after me and jumped on my back.

"Please don't fight Esdeath." She cried out.

"Why not?" I continued to walk despite the girl on my back. "This sword is undefeated, gotta fight someone strong to prove it."

Kurome stayed quiet, she just rested her head on my shoulder as I carried her towards the courtyard.

When we arrived Esdeath was stood in wait, her rapier held out in her hand.

I dropped Kurome down a fair distance away and walked towards the general.

"Thank you for this opportunity." I took out the sword and ran a finger along the writing.

I noticed that Wave had collected the rest of the Jaegers and they all stood next to Kurome who looked like she was going to cry.

I gave her a smile and turned back to Esdeath.

"All out, don't hold anything back Y/N."

I nodded and closed my eyes, I had to win this fight without letting the monster within me loose.

There was still a few people I didn't want to know about that yet.

I charged at Esdeath and swiped at her side, to which she blocked effortlessly and jumped backwards.

I know that wasn't my best but it hurts seeing her block my attack so easily.

Kurome POV

Why is he doing this?

He could get himself seriously hurt...

Esdeath attacked him this time, jabbing at his guard, Y/N was doing a good job of dodging and blocking but it didn't look easy.

What was he thinking?

Esdeath is a monster, she's less human than he is.

However, even though it's Y/N that is tiring, it's Esdeath that makes the mistake.

The oversteps and Y/N doesn't hesititate, he kicks out at her leg and she trips over.

He places his sword next to her neck and wins the fight, we were all really shocked, partially because Y/N won but because of Esdeath's mistake.

She'd never do that, ever.

Maybe that's the swords power?

I don't care, I ran over to Y/N and jumped onto him again.

He was alright...

Y/N POV

I... I won.

I knew I looked confident but I was expecting to lose badly.

But when Esdeath over stepped a jab my body almost moved on it's own.

It felt natural, and amazing.

Kurome jumped at me with her eyes teared up.

"Do you like my back that much?" I joked as I gave Esdeath a hand up. "Thank you for the fight, General."

The blue haired general seemed as surprised as everyone else that she'd lost so quickly, I think she wanted to toy with me some more.

She said nothing and simply walked off, probably towards her room.

I stared at her as she walked off, unable to tell exactly what was going through her head.

Guess I'd find out at some point.

First things first.

"Hey Kurome, can you get off of me?" I asked the girl that seemed to be attached to my back.

Silence continued until I realised that Kurome was in fact a sleep.

Another sleeping girl I'm carrying.

What is wrong with me?
