"You ready for this?", I asked Troy. We both stood on the court in our jersey's, the stands full of people waiting for the beginning jump.
"Let's do this.", he said, flashing his pearly white teeth at me. The starting five walked out to the middle of the court, along with the other team.
I shook West High's starters, earning disapproving looks as I did. Chad shook hands before knocking the ball to Troy to begin the game.
The game started, and anxiously waited for halftime to come.
~
The clock went off and halftime began. Gabriella and Taylor should start setting off the alarms anytime now.
"How long do you think it will take them?", Troy asked. As soon as he asked, the lights started to flick on and off along with the score board.
The alarms started going off and everyone's attention went away from the game. "Come on guys, go!", Chad ran up to the both of us.
Troy and I nodded and ran out of the gym together, heading for the auditorium. People started piling out of the gym behind us, following our lead.
We ran to the backstage door and ran through it. Sharpay and Ryan were both onstage performing when everyone started piling into seats.
They finished and walked offstage looking super confused. We both walked on and stood in the middle. I looked out into the crowd and saw how many people were there.
Wow, there were so many of them. There wasn't a single seat empty. Ms. Darbus walked on and handed us both microphones and headed back to the audience.
I looked over at Troy and he could tell how scared I was. "Don't think about all the people. Just sing and sound awesome. It won't be that hard for you.", he whispered.
I smiled and nodded at him. He nodded over at Kelsi to start playing and the music began.
McKenna: Italisized
Troy: BOLD
Both: Italisized and BOLD
We're soarin', flying
There's not a star in heaven that we can't reach
If we're tryin', so we're breakin' freeYou know the world can see us
In a way that's different then who we are
Creating space between us, till we're separate hearts
But your faith, it gives me strength
Strength to believeWe're breakin' free
We're soarin', flyin'
There's not a star in heaven that we can't reach
If we're tryin', yeah, we're breakin' free
Oh, we're breakin' free! OohCan you feel it building? Like a wave the ocean just can't control
Connected by a feelin', ooh, in our very souls
Rising 'til it lifts us up, so everyone can seeRunnin', climbin'
To get to the place to be all that we can be
Now's the time
So we're breakin' free, (we're breakin' free, ooh yeah)
More than hope, more than faith
This is truth, this is fate
And together we see it coming
More than you, more than me
Not a want, but a need
Both of us, breaking free!
Soarin', flyin'
There's not a star in heaven that we can't reach
If we're tryin', yeah, we're breakin' free (breaking free)
We're runnin', ooh climbin'
To get to the place to be all that we can be
Now's the time (now's the time)
So we're breakin' free (oh we're breakin' free), ooh
You know the world can see us
In a way that's different than who we are
We finished staring at each other. Everyone in the audience stood and clapped.
Troy leaned down and kissed my cheek before grabbing my hand and walking offstage.
"Thank you.", I said once we got offstage.
"For what?", he asked, not letting go of my hand.
"For singing with me."
"It's me who should be thanking you.", he said.
"Why?"
"Before you came, I was the basketball guy. It's all I ever did. Now, because I met you, there's something new for me to enjoy. Thank you, for opening my eyes.", he said.
I smiled at him and pulled him in for a hug. He kissed the top of my head then lead me out out of the auditorium.

When I first moved to Albuquerque, I hated it. Moving schools and homes was the last thing on my mind. Now I wouldn't leave for the world.
Troy was the first person I met at East High and my first friend. I quickly gained more friends but he was the first. As we became friends, we slowly became more, and I love it.
I got my family back here. As much as it hurt, I wan'ted my Dad back. I needed him, and he came back.
Everything good happened at East High. Even though I miss my old friends, I love my new ones. I love it here and am not planning on going anywhere.

OMG that's the end of Part 1! Thank you so much for reading this and supporting it. It means so much to me to see people reading and enjoying a book I wrote.
Part 2 will be HSM 2, obviously, but like this book it won't be exactly like the movie. HSM 2 is one of my favorites so I'm super excited for this Part.
Stay tuned for Part 2!
