"You know, nobody can hear you up here. Even if you scream at your very loudest."

It's been two weeks or so since our last date; two weeks of lingering gazes and "See me after class."s and "Can I talk to you about the assignment?"s. Two weeks since we last hung out in private, meaning it's also been two weeks since she let me touch her in any way that could not be seen as teacher and student, most definitely including kissing. When I asked what I'd done wrong, she brought me here again. Back to the waterfall.

"That's mildly terrifying." I comment, turning to face her while her eyes trace the distant skyline, "How do you know?"

"I've done it." She shrugs, kicking a small rock down the hill before looking over at me, "Do it. Yell something."

"Like what?" I ask, though when she doesn't respond I decide to make the decision myself, screaming out the first thing that comes to mind. "I'm really fucking gay!"

She bursts into laughter (my mission was a success), while shaking her head and finally looking up at me.

"Not like that!" She exclaims, still laughing, "It's supposed to be a secret. A confession."

When I remain silent, she continues, "If you died right now, what would you regret not saying to someone. Say it, out loud, like you're saying it to them."

The answer dances on the tip of my tongue but I hold it there, trying to push it back down my throat as I hum and pretend to think. Who knows how she'd react if I told her?

"Okay... let's start small. Just yell something you've never told anybody. I'll go first." She states before clearing her throat, "I actually kind of like grading papers!" She yells, making me splutter before laughing.

"Your go!" She calls out over my laughter, "You have to keep it going. No hesitation."

"Uh... I let people tell rumours about me to make my reputation bigger!"

"Why do you do that?!" She calls in the same tone and volume, making me shrug before she adds, "I once ate my sister's advent calendar chocolate and pretended she'd already eaten it!"

"You have a sister?" I ask at a regular volume.

"Mhmm." She hums, "Her name is Sofi. You'll have to meet her some day."

"I will." I agree, then turn away from her to the city as I shout, "I stole chocolate too! From a store as a kid!"

"You can't copy me!" She argues, "And I went through a really bad emo phase in high school!"

"I've never woken up early enough to watch the sun rise voluntarily!"

"I pretended to be sick to avoid my aunt and uncle's wedding!"

"I accidentally killed Cara's goldfish once and bought an identical one to replace it!"

"I almost got a tattoo of a banana before the guy realised I was drunk!"

"I'm in love with you!"

"What?"

"What?" I stammer, already knowing I've turned a deep crimson.

"You're.. you're in love with me?" She frowns as I glance at her before glueing my eyes to one particular building with a red roof.

"Yeah." I gulp, expecting a slap or for her to simply walk away, both metaphorically and figuratively.

"Do you even realise what you're saying right now?" She mutters.

"Yeah." I repeat, hanging my head and adding meekly, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have-"

Pressure against my lips cuts me off and all of the air immediately leaves my body. Her lips sit firmly, yet oh so soft, against mine for a solid five seconds before she pulls away enough for me to see her face, never opening her eyes until she's finished admitting, "I'm in love with you too."
