Chapter Two:
We got our schedules and compared. We all had lunch together, along with the guys! SCORE! Rae had Government, AP biology, English, and French with me. Christine has Government, Calculus, and Anatomy with me. Bryson has English with me. Jake has Calculus and Gym with me. Ryan has Anatomy and French with me. Well, that worked out well for all of us. I have at least one of my closest friends in all of my classes.
The warning bell rang, so me and Rae headed to first period, Government. Yuck! We chatted and made our way to room 309. When we were walking through the door, I stopped dead in my tracks by what I saw.
Declan? Talking to my ex, Tyson? What? No way. Maybe he’s just asking a question, right? They couldn’t be friends.. right? How did I not know this kid, especially if he’s friends with Ty. I know all of Ty’s friends! It’s like the Gods don’t want me to know this kid…
The bell rang and Declan sat down next to Ty. Oh, I guess they are tight.
Mr. Turner walked in and began talking about stuff on the class. Blah, blah, blah. Who cares.
“Pssssst, Abs!” Rae whisper shouted at me.
“What?” I whisper shouted back.
“What happened to your arm?” She asked me seriously, looking at the purplish black bruise on my arm.
I thought about lying and saying it was nothing, but she knows me too well. “Tell you later.” I finally said.
When Mr. Turner wrapped up his talk, we had five minutes left till second period.
“So, what happened to your arm now?”
“That’s a stupid question, Rae. You know goddamn well what happened.” I told her annoyed.
She closed her eyes in pain and whispered, “Your dad?”
I felt tears forming in my eyes, but I quickly blinked them away. I had to do that a lot. “Yeah.”
“He was drinking, wasn’t he?”
“Nope, snorting crack.” I croaked.
“Oh honey bunch, come here.” She said, wrapping her arms around me.
Thank god we were in the back, and no one was looking. I didn’t want anyone to know anything was wrong because after all, I am supposed to have the ‘perfect life’.
We stayed like that for a while, and then she let go.
“Want to stay at mine for a while?”
“For a few days, please.”
“Don’t say please. We’re like freaking sisters, Abs. We grew up together.” She said.
“Sorry I’m just a little shaken…” I trailed off.
She opened her mouth to respond, but was cut off by the sound of the bell.
“Come on, don’t hang your mouth open like that. You’ll swallow bugs. Let’s head to AP.” I said, pulling her hand.
In AP biology, the teacher asked us to get a safety slip signed, and gave us our books. She said a few words, but gave us the rest of the period to relax.
Thank god.
Me and Rae chatted for a bit until she turned to me. “Abs, I’m sorry about what happened with Mitch.” Mitch was my dad.
“It’s whatever. Nothing you can do, not your fault either.” I snapped.
“Okay no need to snap… talk to me when you’re not pissy.” She said as the bell rang.
