Part Two: The night I got with Jared
It had been nearly a week and Shannon hadn't called or messaged me. I thought maybe he had changed his mind or maybe he was still getting over Paloma and I had been a rebound after all. Katie wasn't speaking to me either. Her loss.
Anyhow, Jess had invited me out again on Friday with the Rock & Metal Society, so I was going to see him. This time I chose to wear my ripped Metallica t-shirt, black leather shorts, and my leather jacket.
This week's society event was a gig from a local metal band, followed by clubbing. Luckily, Jess had got me a ticket anyway, assuming that I would be up for anything that involved seeing Shannon. She was such a good friend.
Everybody who was going to the gig gathered at Jess's house beforehand.
"He's not here yet." She muttered.
"I'd noticed." I said, feeling a little worried. "Is he definitely coming?"
"Well he didn't reply to Garrett earlier when he asked, so I don't actually know, babe."
Fuck sakes, I thought. He still hadn't arrived by the time we headed up the road to the venue. I realised that he had turned up late last week, so it may just be a Shannon thing to arrive fashionably late.
I walked alongside Jess and Garrett feeling like the biggest third wheel in the world. I scowled the whole way there, listening to the pair of them flirt, when suddenly I was alerted to Garrett's phone ringing. I say ringing... I mean screaming.
"What's up?"
Jess and I exchanged looks.
"Yeah, man. Okay, no worries, see you there."
As he pocketed his phone he sighed.
"What?" Jess urged. "Is something wrong?"
"No... nothing's wrong. Shanny boy can't make it tonight so he's sold his ticket to his brother Jared. He's gonna meet us there."
Jess winced. "Sorry, hun." She said quietly.
I shrugged. "It's okay. Shannon hasn't spoken to me all week. I might just give up on him to be honest. He said he wanted to see me again, but he's not made the effort. He hasn't even called."
"I'm sure he has a good reason, Y/N. But hey, Jared is lovely. You'll hit it off. He might be able to tell you what's going on with Shannon."
I was relieved that Jess had temporarily abandoned her insufferable flirting with Garrett to try and cheer me up. I was very keen to meet Jared, but once again, I had zero expectations.
When we arrived at the venue, I thought I saw Shannon leaning against the wall. My heart raced, but when he looked up at us and said "hey" very softly, I realised that it must have been Jared. As I approached a little closer, I thought holy shit because the two of them looked so alike, and yet so different.
He shook hands with James and slapped him on the back. As I watched him greet every one of the boys in the same way I exchanged looks with Jess. He seemed to speak more quietly than Shannon, but all the mannerisms were the same.
"Hey Jared, good to see you." Jess went in for a quick hug.
"Hey, Jessica it's been a while. I hope you're good?" He stuffed his hands in his pocket and shuffled about awkwardly.
"Yeah, not bad at all." She smiled at him, and then turned to me. "Oh, by the way, this is my friend, Y/N. She's our newest member."
When his dazzling large blue eyes rested on me I couldn't help but stare. I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out. I could see him trying to hide a smile as he rescued me from awkwardness and dived right in for a hug.
