It was a soul-sucking wait, and especially tedious for those who had forgotten to carry a book or technology to entertain them. Many seemed restless; there was constant readjustment of arms and legs or people got up to stretch and walk because it was all they could do to pass the time.

The children on the other hand, usually incapable of keeping still, were now limp against parents, their heads lolling to one side and mouths slightly parted.

I abandoned my novel, dropping it into my lap. It was difficult to take the words in when tiredness was blurring the letters into one. I had already read the first paragraph more than once, yet I still didn't know what it was about.

- Inspired by that one time I was at the airport waiting to board a plane two hours later than scheduled.
