L'appel Du Vide

I stand firmly planted here looking over the edge
How many have come before to leap from this ledge?
The canopy below begins to loudly cry out my name
The sound echoes off the canyons and repeats the same

One more step and down I go, all my problems cease
The wind blows the tree tops beckon and begin to tease
I've worked so very long and hard to get so high
One more foot is all I need and forever on the ground I'll lie

The thought of finality calms me down and feels so quaint
I look again and see the jagged rocks and want to faint
I look behind me to the path from which I came
Then look below and consider the promise of no more pain

I consider now whether I should get a running start
It won't matter as long as from this cliff my feet part
Desperately my eyes dart around and spy another trail
Shall I go? Or will it just be another task for me to fail

Reluctantly the decisions been made I shall not fall
Despite the sweetness of the voids thundering call
I ponder again on just how simple it all could be
But that's now how this works, for when it's time the void will come to me
