Hosea Matthews X Younger Female Reader

You joined the camp not that long ago, you had nowhere else to go and the camp was more than welcoming. You definitely warmed up to Hosea Matthews quickly, he was kind and generous. You could tell that everyone else in the camp loved and respected him. He wanted the younger members of the camp to move on to better things and you appreciated that about him, you couldn't help but smile when you over heard him talking to Lenny and encouraging him to get a real job.

Hosea had warmed up to you too. You were friendly and intelligent, and admittedly very attractive. He had seen you trying to help everyone in the camp, and whenever he saw you doing it he would smile to himself.

Hosea sat at the table near the edge of the camp, enjoying the quiet and some time alone. This was where you were most likely to find him on any day. He sighed as he looked over at you, he couldn't help but smile when he saw that you were helping Pearson with some tidying up.

He knew that he had developed feelings for you, strong feelings in fact. But he also had a strong feeling that you only thought of him as a father figure, and he wouldn't blame you for that he must have been at least twice your age (but he was pretty sure you were younger than that if he was being honest).

Dutch sighed as he sat down opposite Hosea, following the older man's gaze until he was watching you too. "If you keep staring at her, she might actually notice" Dutch commented, smirking to himself as he turned to face him, Hosea sighed as he turned to face Dutch. "Y'know, sometimes talking makes more progress than staring" Dutch suggested with a light shrug.

"Progress in what exactly?" Hosea asked. He knew that Dutch knew him better than anyone, so he was pretty sure that Dutch knew exactly what he was thinking.

"Winning the affection of the pretty lady over there" Dutch chuckled to himself, gesturing towards you.

"I'm not trying to win anyone's affection" Hosea shook his head.

"I'm sure you not, I'm sure you already got it" Dutch smiled but that smile fell when Hosea just rolled his eyes. "Come on, stop messing around with me. I know that you're sweet on her, and there is nothing wrong with that...I think you should talk to her about it" he advised, being completely honest. Dutch sees everything that happens in this camp, he saw the chemistry between you and Hosea.

"I'm not going to bother her with this. The last thing we need is to scare her off" Hosea explained, he would rather have you in the camp but out of his reach rather than making you feel like you had to leave.

"Scare her off? How would you scare her?" Dutch asked, looking at him in disbelief.

"Dutch...she must look at me like I'm her father" Hosea sighed.

"So it's better to admire from afar?" Dutch asked, wishing there was some way to encourage his friend to make the right decision.

"Exactly" Hosea nodded. Hosea had been admiring you from afar for a while now, there can't be any harm in continuing to do that.

"Hosea, you know that I always respect what you have to say, but that was the dumbest thing I've ever heard" Dutch sighed, rolling his eyes as he stood up and walked away.

You and the other women in the camp had been washing the camp's dirty clothes. Tilly folded another shirt and placed into a basket before handing it to you. The basket was filled with Hosea's clothes and it was your job to take it to him, not that you minded at all. You carried the basket over to Hosea's tent and stepped inside. You smiled when you saw him sitting on his cot.
