"Your ID is expired." The cashier told me.

I looked up at her with wide eyes.

No, it can't be.

If I don't bring him alcohol...

She twisted her mouth around as she fell silent to her thoughts. With a sigh, she allowed the purchase to go through.

"We need the money today. What is with you kids and getting into these kinds of stuff so early?"

She handed me the brown bag containing the bottle inside. She muttered the last part, but I could tell she wasn't just talking about me.

Out of curiosity, I turned around to see who else was in the store.

And there he stood...

Golden boy was over by the small section of knives where he was holding one so tightly in his hand that his scraped up knuckles bled slightly.

I looked up at his eyes.

They lacked brightness and it scared me, but I understood his pain.

He looked up to realize that I was staring at him, causing him to put back the packaged knife.

He looked away from me to wipe his tears.

I left the store and realized that I had my own spilling down my face.

If only there was a way out.
