Toby struggled to fall asleep as night rolled around. His fever had long died down, but his arm still needed some time to heal. He sat up just as the door opened and you walked in with a tray of food. You smiled at him and brought the plate over to him.
"Can't sleep?" You presumed. He nodded as you set the plate down on his lap.
"Thanks." He said and picked up the spoon. As he raised the spoon to his lips, he lowered it and frowned. "You know, I feel bad for all this. You guys don't even know me yet you're taking care of me. Why?" Toby asked as he cocked a brow at you. You merely blinked at him. You then sat down on the stool and hummed in thought.
"Well, I guess it's because we've all been in your situation before." Toby looked at you in surprise.
"You have?" You nodded.
"Yeah. How do you think we all ended up here?" You said and took Toby's spoon out of his hand. You then grabbed a spoonful of the stew and held it up to his lips. Toby parted his lips slightly and allowed you to feed him. He remembered telling you before he could feed himself, but you wouldn't have any of it.
After some time, you handed the spoon to Toby and allowed him to eat the rest himself. You then leaned back and rested your hands in your lap. "This place is full of strange people who want to hide away. Take Dale for instance. Although he may look like a child, he's actually over fifty years old." You told. Toby choked on his food and banged his fist on his chest.
"No way, really!?" He cried. You giggled and nodded.
"Yep! So don't feel like you need to tell us your life story. A name will be just fine. I'll start us off. My name is Y/n." You offered your hand out to him with a winning smile. Toby stared down at your hand and looked down at his. He then returned your smile and grasped your hand in his tightly.
"Toby. My name's Toby." You closed your eyes in delight and nodded.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Toby." You said. Toby smiled at you. He then blinked when you leaned forwards and pressed your hand against his forehead. "Hmm, your fever seems to have died down somewhat. That's a good thing." Toby nodded as you took your hand away from him.
You brought out a book and began to flip through it.
"Toby, do you have a family to go back to?" You asked. Toby looked down at his food and clenched his fists tightly. Would his father even care if he came back? He had a much better son now. A boy who could calculate anything at max speed, someone who was popular, heck he even saved the entire city! How could he top that?
"...I did." He mumbled. You fingered the corner of a page as you took in Toby's words.
"So, you have nowhere to go?" You asked. Toby bit his lip and hung his head.
"I guess not..." You looked up from your book at Toby and smiled. You then set the book aside and sat on the bed. Toby jumped back slightly as you leaned towards him.
"You can stay here!" You exclaimed. Toby's eyes widened at you.
"I-I can!?" You giggled and nodded.
"Mhm! But you'll have to work for it just like the rest of us."
"Of course! So, uh, what do I have to do exactly?" Toby asked. You grinned at him. You then did a back flip and landed on your hand, holding the rest of your body up.
"Perform of course! You'll be joining Malikai's circus of the unknown!" You exclaimed as you did a little pose. Toby stared at you in wonder as you did a few other tricks. He then smiled.
"Cool! I'd love to join the circus!" You giggled and kneeled down by his bed.
"Great! All we have to do now is tell Malikai, the ring leader." You told. Toby nodded. He then threw the blankets off his body and swung his legs around.
