"Explain it to me one more time," Riley requested. "Jeremy did what?"

Elena's voice crackled slightly when she answered, the phone connection getting worse the further away she was.

"He killed Kol," Elena repeated. "He had to complete his mark, and when you kill an Original, everyone that they've ever turned dies with them."

"So Jeremy completed his mark, and the rest of you guys flitted off in the middle of the night to Nicaragua-"

"Nova Scotia," she heard Damon correct in the background. "Idiot!"

"Whatever," Riley dismissed. "That doesn't explain why Klaus is stuck in your living room, or why Care, Tyler and I are on babysitting duties."

Elena sighed. "Tyler's there in case we take longer than expected and Klaus gets out. You and Caroline are there because if you came with us you'd miss the wedding."

Riley nodded. "Good point. Just hurry up and find the cure," she said when she pulled up outside the Gilbert residence. "And keep an eye on that creepy professor dude. Don't leave him alone with Bonnie."

"We won't," she promised. "See you soon."

They hung up and Riley walked into the house to find Klaus and Tyler facing each other. She smiled at Klaus.

"How does it feel? To be trapped?" she asked, goading him. He scowled at her. "It feels like justice to me, doesn't it feel like justice, Tyler?"

"You're damn right it does," Tyler agreed, also giving Klaus a sinister grin. "Hey Riley, help me out with something. When they get the cure and I get to shove it down Klaus's throat, how should I kill him?"

Riley grinned. "Well, if it was anyone else, I'd suggest ripping his heart out. But for Klaus, I think you need something bigger. Something drawn out and painful..."

Klaus perked up. "I recommend drowning. There's nothing quite like the feeling of someone fighting for something as basic as human breath. And let me tell you," he said, focusing on Tyler. "Your mother was a fighter."

"Don't start," Riley warned, as the back door opened and Caroline walked in carrying two dress covers.

"Hey," she called. "Elena said we can use her place as bridesmaid central."

Riley frowned. "There are no bridesmaids," she reminded her extremely organized almost-sister.

Caroline rolled her eyes. "Just because I'm the Maid of Honor and you're the Best Man doesn't mean we can't wear bridesmaid dresses." At this point she looked up to witness the apparent stand-off between Tyler and Klaus. "Tyler, you can probably leave now, we've got this."

Tyler shook his head. "I'm gloating."

"Hello Caroline," Klaus said, his whole demeanor changing. Riley held her hand over her mouth to stifle a giggle.

"God, I keep forgetting that he's in love with you."

"He's not in love with me," Caroline scowled at the Original vampire. "Plus, he killed Tyler's mom, so if he thinks that I feel anything other than extreme hatred for him, he's seriously mistaken."

As she spoke, she found a tablecloth in a nearby cupboard and draped it over Kol's dead body; the body that Riley hadn't even noticed was lying on the kitchen floor, burned to a crisp.

"Tyler's mother is dead," Klaus spoke, causing the three of them to look at him. "So is my brother. We're even. Call Bonnie, get her to let me out of here."

Riley frowned. "You have two other immortal siblings. Tyler had one human mother, and now she's gone. You'll never be even."

"I was talking to Caroline," Klaus clarified, gazing at the blonde vampire.
